Gomez and Morticia's misbegotten brood may have been creepy and kooky, but they were also happy, as the cartoons in the delightful anthology "The Addams Family: An Evilution" attest.

As much a fan as I am of Raul Julia's work, both dramatic and comic, I have to say that my favorite Gomez will always be John Astin. His macabre love of life and lusty passion for Morticia's forays into French was hilarious.

As a kid I watched the show and found the antics of Gomez and Morticia bemusing...now I realize how lucky John Astin was, getting to play that role ;)

In my family in the sixties, we absolutely loved the Addams family, and we were big fans of Charles Addams's non-Addams Family cartoon drawings, too. He was clearly a person with a great warped sense of humor.

When I was a kid I thought The Munsters was stupid and The Addams Family was smart and sophisticated. It always amazed me that The Munsters had such a big viewership. I feel the same way about David Letterman and Jay Leno. I'll never understand what people see in Leno.
