Comic Sans Strikes Again (PHOTO)

As demonstrated by Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan GIlbert, nobody will take you seriously if you use Comic Sans as your font of choice. It's meant for children, people with poor judgment, and according this picture, lemonade stands. (via Passive Aggressive Notes)

I can definitely share this collective aversion to Comic Sans font. I also have a special dislike for Brush Script. I do not think that it looks very professional. I can understand that its appeal comes from the fact that it looks 'nostalgic.' I, however, do not believe that it has a place on anything of professional value other than a Johnny Rockets menu. In our local television market, the ABC affiliate used the Brush Script font as part of their logo and their promotions. It looked cheap, in my opinion. Please also consider that the lettering is not very easy to read in a short amount of time. It slows down the eyes.

I don't get the whole Comic Sans meme. I might change the wording a bit, but keep the typeface. "Open this door again, Mo#erf**ker. I dare you."

This maybe a microcosm of the problems that we face as a society today. SELL SELL SELL!!!! BUY BUY BUY!!!! LOOK AT ME I AM IMPORTANT!!!! Content does not matter, what maters is image, and I know what people want, and if you disagree with my opinion then YOU are wrong, and I will ridicule you to prove my point.

We know what tricks to use to get you to buy something and that is how we make money. What is inside the package no longer matters as much as the wrapper it comes in, especially if we pay Paris Hilton to be photographed with it.

This used to be the ideologies of Snake Oil Salesmen. We have taken Madison Ave tactics and applied it to almost every facet of our so called "free market" calculations. Trying to get someone to buy product A instead of B by the way it is marketed is one thing, but this philosophy has permeated into just about every other aspect of our society including the social workings of our children in school with what they wear to how political campaigns are run.

I realize that this is how things have been since the beginning of time to separate one group from another, and I am not naive enough to believe that things will ever change, but what worries me is the "total" commercialization of our lives and our children.

I would not have used the door either way.

I fanned you because I am a teacher who truly dislikes it when students turn in assignments that are completed in Comic Sans - even after I tell them that I will only accept either Times New Roman or Arial fonts. And I am not very fond of Papyrus, either. It seems like s font that is limited to only a few uses, but is overused for no logical reason...

I had a teacher that only let you turn in: double spaced, typed, 12size font, and the font has to be the kind with the extra hangy parts (I don't know what they are called) like Times New Roman and Courier, so Arial was not allowed. I always picked Courier because it took up the most amount of room on a 10 page report on the world's water crisis.

I really need to get out more if this made me laugh out loud. You eventually pay the price for growing up with a bunch of graphics folk.

...but the "kick me hard" sign on my back was AMAZING.

For "please keep the door closed", I'm okay with Comic Sans pretty much anywhere but a funeral home.

But those exclamation points have got to go.

You are right about the exclamation points. They make the sign look like it belongs to a preteen girl's bedroom.

Racism, sexism...now this scourge is upon us. Nothing but rampant Fontism I say. Whether you are a graphic designer, a lemonade stand worker, a Fortune 500 company employee, or a Huffington Post commenter, NO ONE should ever be saddened or offended by a font. Pitiful.

I agree ... to a point.
I was once sent a proposal that used Algerian as the title font.
Lost all credibility from the start.

Seriously..........

Honestly if people are that anal retentive over some indistinguishable font from the other 150+ available they have a serious problem. I would hope that the fortune 500 company in question i n this would realize that maybe their business practices would be under more scrutiny in this economy then what freaking font they use.

Font usage matters, whether you realize it or not. It's a very subtle effect, but it does influence how we react to messages and advertising. I was in advertising for many years, and I am still flummoxed as to why some businesses insist on using Comic Sans in their promotions. Here in KC, a dental office is running television ads using this font, and I just gaze at the screen and wonder wth they were thinking when they approved the ad.

Fonts can has as much of an effect as color. Don't underestimate their usage as marketing tools.

If the entire message relies solely on what font is used then i suggest getting a better message.

What kind of psychology bunk says font type influences stuff?

Tell me one person who has watched a commercial/ad and decided to buy the product based solely on what font was used. If that's the criteria then it's just pitiful consumerism.

I have been in prepress for over thirty years and you really have to be a nerd to think up a font joke, not so much to enjoy it.
