Emn Haddad-Friedman & Alex Bero To Marry In Rhinebeck The Same Day As Chelsea Clinton Wedding

Chelsea Clinton Marc Mezvinsky

First Posted: 07/20/10 05:45 PM ET Updated: 05/25/11 06:05 PM ET

Chelsea Clinton won't be the only bride in Rhinebeck on the 31st (if, in fact, she is getting married there). Meet Emn Haddad-Friedman: a Brooklyn-based school teacher set to marry her college sweetheart Alex Bero about 5 minutes away from the supposed Clinton nuptials that same day.

Haddad-Friedman told Yahoo! Shine, "I know she's not doing it on purpose, but Chelsea Clinton has taken what was supposed to be a special day for me turned it into hell."

She added, "If Chelsea's wedding does happen, they'll probably close all the roads and my guests will have to drive for an hour and a half to get from my ceremony to the reception, if they get there at all."

Haddad-Friedman has called the police every day this week to attempt to confirm that the Clinton wedding will be held in Rhinebeck, but of course they aren't at liberty to respond.
Haddad-Friedman says that her wedding will go on no matter what: "As long as we're there, a witness and some one who can marry us, we're doing it." And she also invited the Clintons--and Mezvinskys--to stop by.

The Bride had a legitimate worry, but it looks liek everything went OK.

I wouldn't be surprised to learn though, that someone on the Clinton staff worked with the Secret Service and he local police to minimize the hassles.

AS IF Chelsea purposely said hey, let's get married on this day and in this place just to ruin the wedding of someone we didn't even know existed.

Clearly Chelsea should have had her crystal ball tuned up and shame on her for not knowing this other wedding was planned.

She said she didn't think Chelsea did it on her purpose.Give her a break. It's her special day too, and she deserves to be frustrated.

Ms. Friedman should get a lawyer to contact the NYS Police and let them know the schedule of her wedding party so she and her guests are able to get where they need to go. I think she has a right to her concerns you only get married once ( hopefully ) and you dream about how you want your day to go. To have your day ruined because someone who is rich, powerful and has connections is getting married is stressful. I think the former President and Mrs. Clinton should step up to the plate and help ensure
Ms. Friedman' day is as wonderful as Chelsea' day.

Not a direct response to you, Jazz, but I can't get my regular comment box to function correctly...

As a Rhinebeck resident, readers should rest assured that the Clinton wedding is in between Emn's wedding and reception sites the same way that Chicago is in between New York and LA. There might be congestion in the village of Rhinebeck due to all of the press, but there are plenty of easy ways around it. This story is all about 15 minutes of fame, Rhinebeck is not such a small town that we'll all be bumping into the Clintons. 9 out of 10 residents won't see anyone associated with the wedding, it is off the beaten path.

If I were the groom, I would run after hearing this bit of b.s.

If Emn and Alex were smart, they would take this as a sign that they shouldn't get married. Just leave things as they are...

Congrat to both couples. But bravo to Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer* and his fiancee Elyse Buxbaum for planning their wedding in CT, a marriage equality state.**

Given the fact that DOMA and DADT were passed on Chelsea Clinton's father's watch it would be nice for them (Chelsea and Marc) to wed in CT too.

Onward to full civil and marriage equality rights in 21st century America,
Joe Mustich & Ken Cornet, Justices of the Peace,
Washington, Connecticut, USA.

*
When we lived on the Upper West Side Scott was our state rep.

**
CT legalized civil unions in 2005, and marriage equality in 2008, so now we get to perform non-religious civil marriage ceremonies all the time for couples, many of whom have been together for 20, 30 and 45 years.

So come on Chelsea and Marc boycott the flat-earth state of NY.

Warning, Warning: The Wasilla Hillbillies, heard t be within 50 miles,of the Clinton wedding ,on that day!Perhaps the secretary of state could have some snippers, in helicopters to Add some Ironny!

The police should be able to coordinate something so both brides can have their special event without a hitch. Come on, we're talking Secretary of State here.

More proof that weddings are why Vegas was invented. The casinos in Vegas are just metaphors for marriage.

You know what? Chelsea and Emn wouldn't be having any issues relating to their wedding if they were gay. At least they're ALLOWED to be married and recognized as human beings. Logistics should take a back seat to counting ones blessings, I guess.

I am 100% FOR gay marriage but I disagree with you. Gay or straight whenever a President or their children are involved in anything it shuts towns down. I got stuck in the Miami airport overnight once because President Bush was simply in the NYC airspace and no other airplanes were permitted to fly. I personally think it's ridiculous for anyone to care about who marries who and perhaps the focus should be on having good long unions regardless of sex.
03:41 PM on 07/21/2010
The point being that I bet there are thousands of gay men and women who would love to have this worry.

I don't think straight people even realize what a slap in the face it is to have people complaining about all the rights they take for granted. AND we have to read about all the joys of planning a wedding as we're relegated to supplying the flowers, doing hair and makeup and catering (yes, I'm being completely stereotypical here, but I think you get it).

My actual response is awaiting approval but I forgot to say THANK YOU for supporting gay marriage! :)
