Reggie Bush Heisman Trophy REMOVED From USC

Reggie Bush Heisman

First Posted: 07/20/10 07:38 PM ET Updated: 05/25/11 06:05 PM ET

Big changes are afoot at USC. The college athletics powerhouse announced the replacement of athletic director Mike Garrett, and newcomer Pat Haden has already announced one big shift.

The incoming AD said he would return the Heisman Trophy that standout running back Reggie Bush won in 2005. Bush was a major part of the harsh NCAA sanctions imposed on USC for alleged misconduct.

Taking a shot at the school's former prized running back, who helped lead the team to a national championship, incoming school president Max Nikias said that "the Trojan Family honors and respects the USC sporting careers of those persons whose actions did not compromise their athletic program or the opportunities of future USC student-athletes."

So have they given the trophy to Vince Young and Univ of Texas? He came in second in the voting.

They sent the championship trophy they won during the years he played too, right?

They also sent the estimated amount of $ from the #5 jerseys they sold and gave it to charity right?

There was NO way that the University knew there was such evil afoot!!

Reminds me of the home-run outrage of the MLB owners.

Choreographed...

Poorly

They need to also scrub Pete Carroll from the history books too because it was on HIS watch this happened. They won't scrub the whites off their history books though, just the blacks and minorities. Reggie Bush was a kid who they pinned their winning hopes on. ALL the coaches know these kids were getting illegal perks and looked the other way. WHO ARE THE REAL ADULTS HERE?! No one at this school obviously.

Here's what I dont get about this. USC has still not returned OJ's Heisman that he won way back when. Now what Reggie may have done may have been slightly unethical, but I dont think anyone would consider that to be more serious than what OJ did.

*and I mean OJ Simpson not OJ Mayo

Apples and Oranges. Reggie Bush violated NCAA rules. OJ Simpson committed murder. One gets his Heisman taken. The other goes to jail (or should have). OJ Simpson's conduct after winning the trophy has no bearing on his status as a Heisman winner. Reggie Bush's conduct during the season for which he won the trophy, has everything to do with him losing it.

I had thought that Simpson's trophy had been auctioned off and publicly melted down. I checked, and it was auctioned for $230K. I remember there was some controversy, because he tried to keep the name plate.

Which is stoopid. He earned the trophy fair in square.

Well until they are USC is required to play by them. Cheaters never prosper.

Have you looked at the cost of a college education lately? In that sense, they are being paid.

Just pay the damn players outside of a free ride. The players are the only ones associated with college sports that aren't professionals. Its a circus. Why is a college student allowed to pursue a paid career while enrolled but a student athlete isn't allowed to make $$$? Change the double standard... These athletes are on a 25/7 cycle of studying, practicing, going to class ect... They deserve some of the money in their pockets in addition to a free ride.

Unless the NCAA and USC suddenly got a hold of one of those "Men In Black" flash strobe memory neuralizers, these actions are pointless. Attempting to do the court move of "striking it from the record" doesn't work. Even when it's talked about years from now, it will always be mentioned they initially won. In this case, unless the win is a result of substance enhancers, the bottom line is the team still won. Not a fan of Reggie Bush, but it was still his talent that got him that trophy...not an agent.

A day late and a dollar short. While Bush is guilty, USC shares much of the blame. The NCAA investigation reported that USC at times had ONE employee in their athletic compliance office. You have to be kidding me. Very hard to differentiate between willful negligence and plausible deniability. The school made a mockery out of the rules.

Bush is a selfish guy.
He knew he was going to get drafted into the NFL and make $$$$$, and he still couldn't wait 2 years to drive a nice car??

Being king on campus was not enough for him.

The NCAA needs to change: Pay athletes and crackdown harder on academics by looking at the graduation rates.

Bush and Mayo are both "personas non grata" at USC. Not only have they removed the Heisman from the trpohy case, they're cutting back bushes all over campus, and in the cafeteria you can only get mustard.
