Don Giovanni

Being unable to attend the Glyndebourne Opera Festival can be counted among life's chief disappointments. Now, thanks to MediciTV, you can do your best to pretend you're there in person watching Don Giovanni from the best seat in the house. MediciTV streams live from some of the world's most anticipated classical music and opera concerts, including a concert series put on by Rolex featuring artists like violinist Ilya Gringolts and segments from the Verbier Music Festival. Currently, you can even find a concert with superstar soprano Renee Fleming singing alongside the Berliner Philharmoniker.

Clicking on Glyndebourne Festival's Don Giovanni, beckons close ups of the conductor, the orchestra, and the vocalists that you'd even be unable to attain were you actually there in the UK. You do have to create an account to continue watching for free and for unrestricted amounts of time, but it is a quick and painless process - not to mention one that's free of charge.

At last. The opening to "Don GIovanni" is maybe the most arresting first scene in all theatre. In the space of fifteen minutes, we have a great overture that foreshadows the entire comic-drama, leading into a comic monologue, followed by a rape scene, followed by a murder. Then the music stops. This opera is a force of nature, and this production does it full justice.

Mozart is the greatest genius of them all, IMHO.

Wow, bookmarked. ... Watched some of Don Giovanni and it reminded me of SF Symphony's cheap seats that are behind the symphony, facing the conductor. The sound is not so good, but the opp to watch a conductor is a performance in itself. This is a great link, thanks!

great stuff--as much as I like to hear the voice live, the idea of streaming opera is delicious...

It would be nice to watch an opera on our computers once in a while but you are missing out without hearing these voices live.

In forum after forum, all someone has to say is they heard Callas live in such a role or Sutherland or Nilsson to garner the envy of younger opera fans. Nothing compares to hearing the human voice unamplified by electronics. Please go see these performances live if you can. Then you can brag to later generations that you heard it live.
