New Jersey Governor Chris Christie Blasts MTV's 'Jersey Shore'

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) says MTV reality show sensation "Jersey Shore" casts a "negative" and inaccurate light on the Garden State.

"What it does is takes a bunch of New Yorkers -- most of the people on Jersey Shore" are New Yorkers ... [and] drops them at the Jersey Shore, and tries to make Americans feel like this is New Jersey," Christie told ABC's Jake Tapper in an interview over the weekend. "I could tell people, they want to know what New Jersey really is? I welcome them to come to New Jersey any time. The Jersey shore is a beautiful place, and it's a place that everybody should come on vacation this summer."

The criticism from Christie comes as the second season of "Jersey Shore" is set to premiere this week.

At the end of the segment, the New Jersey Governor made one last attempt to lure viewers to his state. "We've got another 6 weeks or so of summer left," he said. Come to New Jersey!"

What can I say Christie - that is the story of good old Joisey. Ellis Island is in NJ (over 80% jurisdiction belongs to NJ at least), but Lady Liberty is showing NJ her back.

I think this will be the one and only thing i agree with the Gov on. Jesery shore (show) is trash) they are NYers. although, NJ has people just like this. and do not step on the shoes, or else. LOL Shows like this a re a real issue in our nation. It dumbs us down. The jersey shore is quite nice, btw.

Thanks for the comic relief, I almost p*ssed my pants. Now let's set the record straight. Last December departing Governor Corswine left NJ a $8 billion dollar deficit. In 5 months Christie
balanced the budget without a tax increase and placed a 2% cap on municipal spending to curtail reckless spending. So the choices are to spend money like a drunken sailor to revive the economy or tighten the belt to return to fiscal responsibility.

Except he is not funding the pension system, so add 2 billion we are in the red, just for this year.

I dont understand - none of the Jersey Shore people are from jersey. They're all from New York I think.

While "Jersey Shore" may not be an accurate depiction of the residents of New Jersey, it sums up some of our summer tourists quite well.

As far as Christie goes I must say it's quite a shame to see so many judge him on his weight. He's a politician after all - shouldn't we judge him on his policies and actions in office?

What makes New Jersey wonderful is the great diversity of people.

What makes it despicable is the financially based segregation and the locally controlled and officially public but effectively private school system.
05:39 AM on 07/27/2010
Negative? Of course...it IS New Jersey. Inaccurate? As a former resident, not at all.

Jealousy will get you nowhere!

I cant wait until the Dems pass the new filibuster rule and Chris Christie is the new president in 2012 so we can roll back all of this garbage our country is up to the throat in.

One of the first things Christie did was give a huge tax break to his friends making over $400,000 and had to CUT the education budget by $800 million to do it! And you think this guy's worthy of being President? Ya, and Sarah Palin is smarter than Barack Obama! Are you serious?

Nothing like distorting the facts. The millionare tax was not renewed by Corzine and the Democratic controlled legislature last December. It was a childish tactic to make Christie look bad after he took over the office. It just backfired on the Dems.

Under-funded for the last 20 years. He's been in office for less than 7 months. So far, he's accomplished quite abit. I wonder if it's not a little bit of jealousy, that the President hasn't asked Christie to join him in Edison tomorrow?
