The guy is offering patterns of thought and behavior that have worked for people trying to get out of difficult situations. I think it's worth listening to and trying out. A few techniques may work better for you than others. But I think just trash talking and expressing cynicism about his stuff is probably not among those techniques that will improve your life.

Tony Robbins' Road to Wealth is to find unhappy desperate people, gain their confidence and take their money.

I went whole hog for Robbins "technologies" after getting laid off in 1994. I self-hypnotized my brain with his "neural reprogramming", focused on my goals, etc, etc.

I ended up believing in myself so much I blew thousands of dollars and ended up having to start my career over anyway at a very low salary.

Robbins, like Napoleon Hill, ends up less a champion for the up and comers and more a cheerleader for the already ams. I'm sure it keeps him in the cups as there is always yet another sucker seeking the "secret of riches".

I however, will tell you the secret of riches for free.

1. Find a rich guy.
2. Get him to give you a job.
3. Kiss his behind for as long as it takes to save up and be rich.

That's it. The Immutable Law of Wealth.

Is it just me or is this guy getting creepier. Also, he talked for 10 minutes and said nothing.

I'm sorry but this just sounds like another late night infomercial to sell this guy's books to people who may be desperate to find some way to get back the lives they lost, mostly through no fault of their own, by today's political and cultural climate. "Positive thinking" alone will never accomplish this.

Question: Why do all these self-help gurus go on and on about "strategies" but fail to offer anything but "think positive"?

I was present at the taping of the finales for these shows, and we were able to watch the episodes so we would know what was going on.

Unfortunately, I think his processes were distilled into a 1 hour format, which robs them of their effectiveness.

What Tony Robbins teaches is SO much more than what can be presented in a prime time tv format.

Watch it for the entertainment value, but don't expect to learn anything about what he teaches.

Tony,

My "result" or "vision" is working people in the world united and ruling our global society (as opposed to a world split along class and all sorts of other lines, where the owners of wealth and the well-connected have the upper hand). It is a world in which the world resources are allocated in ways that maximize the wellbeing and human development of all, not the enrichment of the few, through genuine democratic processes. It is a world without inequality, without oppression of the many by the few, and where children don't depend on their genes or the "markets" (i.e. on the luck of the draw) to realize their potential. It is a world where origin is not destiny and where gender, race, ethnicity, nation, and other divisions are bridged.

The resistance against social change by those who benefit from the existing social arrangements is fierce. Just think of war making and the industrial military complex based on the U.S., which has become much bigger and influential in the last 5 years than ever in history. Or think of BP, Halliburton, the drug makers, the health insurers, etc. This resistance to change is not a figment of my imagination that I can pretend doesn't exist.

So, tell me -- what kind of Massive Action Plan can get my vision realized?

Thanks in advance,

Pancho

Superb post. You saved me alot of typing, which is not my strength. Let's get real here. Words are powerful, as the GOP has often shown us, but you can't make a silk purse out of a national condition that has kids going to fight foriegn wars, for reasons they don't really understand, because it's the only job available to them.

I met Tony Robbins in 1990 on his 30th birthday in Pittsburgh. I love the man. He's a great guy.

Wow. I'm not normally a Tony Robbins/Self-Help kinda guy, but this show sounds pretty good. We need more positive stories on tv. Good on you Tony.
