Wikileaks Down

Whistle-blowing website Wikileaks is down, users are reporting.

The site's outage comes a day after it published over 90,000 classified military documents on the Afghanistan war.

Many on Twitter noted Wikileaks' downtime:

@sethodell: Looks like @wikileaks site is completely down. Wonder if it's due to today's surge in traffic, or something else entirely?

@Sock_De_Jour: Wikileaks site is down. Pentagon hacking it? Or too much traffic? #p2

The website "Down For Everyone Or Just Me" confirmed the site's outage, as did Wikileaks via its official Twitter feed.

@Wikileaks directed users to another site:

WikiLeaks is tremendously overloaded. Please use http://bit.ly/9RlJQAless than a minute ago via bitly

The conspiracy theorist types just felt there weren't enough silly rumors going around as-is. What happened to server 7? ;-) They probably still think the site's bandwidth is being purposely limited by the Freemasons/Shadow Government that knows and controls all, though.

What a surprise. NOT!

Heh, it's something of a guilty pleasure for me to watch websites go down thanks to too much server load. Process is rather simple: website gets reported on in the press, everyone and their dog decide they want to find out what it's all about and go the the website, then one of two things happens. A. the firewall or switches screams bloody murder, assumes it's experiencing a DDoS and goes into lock down and/or start sink-holing traffic, or B. the web host simply cant handle the staggering amount of traffic and freezes up until more servers are provided and/or traffic reduces. Both cases are basically unintentional DoS attacks and aren't exactly that uncommon. Sites like Digg, Drudge, Huffpo, and even Penny Arcade are all known to be able to cause this.

Wikileaks is down in the US because of an un-related ruling by a Court in CA.

Yup... it's up...

As much I may dislike what he has done, but...

I hate that our government has to hide it from us much more.
I worry that our own press that seems so compliant in playing along.
I wonder what I should know but don't.

Democracy cannot exist without an informed public.

It's probably down because all the enemies of the US and NATO are busy downloading the documents to try to find better ways to kill our soldiers who are bravely fighting the SOB's who attacked us on 9/11 and who would nuke our cities the instant they got their hands on a weapon.

I'm sorry, I consider myself a liberal, but working against our military who are bravely following the orders of a democratically (other than 2000) elected government. The people who leaked these documents should be tried for treason. It's fine to debate our policies, but to undermine our troops goes way too far.
02:04 AM on 07/27/2010
Seriously, these people need to be tried. I'm all for transparency, but this is just ridiculous

Hey man, I'm with you. But you should know that wikileaks gave the government a heads up before they posted this stuff. The Pentagon just told them to make sure they didn't post anything that would harm ongoing operations. So wikileaks held back 15,000 documents.
04:18 PM on 07/27/2010
My problem isn't with Wikileaks. They are not an American website, and haven't sworn an oath to the US. My problem is with the US military person or people who leaked this. They had no way of knowing if Wikileaks would edit any of it.

I suppose mass Tweets on Twitter will protest the war now. For one day, if that.

No it's not a conspiracy, they weren't prepared for that much traffic. It's happened to much bigger sites.
