Luxury Home Purchases In Colorado Resort Towns On The Rise (PHOTOS)

First Posted: 7/27/10   Updated: 5/25/11

A recent resurgence in the high-end mountain real estate market may be a sign that the wealthiest investors are feeling more confident about the state of the economy. Compared to a year ago, upscale mountain home purchases have seen significant improvement in the areas surrounding both Aspen and Vail.

In Eagle County, the dollar volume of real estate sales has more than doubled since last year. Among the largest recent purchases was a $24.5 million home purchased by hedge-fund operator John Paulson. Although the market still does not compare to 2007 and 2008 levels, this upward trend may be hopeful sign for the economy at large.

Check out a few of the most expensive purchases to far this year:

Aspen's biggest single family home sale in nearly a year was Aspen Lakes Ranch, which was purchased by billionaire hedge fund operator John Paulson for $24.5 million. This seven-bedroom, eight-and-a-half bath estate is the most expensive sale in Aspen since a $43 million ranch sale in 2009.
