Inhumane and cruel. Another display of man at his worst!!!. The video clearly shows she is being chased down by a truck and is not rampaging as the media states. The icing on the cake is the UC Davis idiotic public display of farm animals giving birth, for Godsake, what kind of people are they? Cowards.

they tried just about everything. first they tried to feed her to calm her down. they didn't want to tranq her because they were feared for the baby's safety. when that didn't work, they tried to tranq. not once, but a few times. when THAT didn't work and the cow was still rampaging, they really had no other choice.

Rampaging???!!! Watch the video! it was being chased by and SUV. Any farm boy (and Sacramento is full of them) could have corralled her safely with the help of 3 other CALM minded guys - no guns, no knives no tazers - and again put her into secure fencing, and there is PLENTY of animal secure areas at the CA fairgrounds. The attending "VET" is a poorly educated hack and should loose his job for giving the order to kill the cow.

And yes I was once a farm boy.

(Why is this story in the LA section when it happened in Sacramento?)

they were chasing her with an effing SUV rather than trying to calm her and put a rope on her. the idea of making birthing animals into "shows" is highly questionalble

I laughed at the interview with the guy that said she was "Vicious" I'm like a vicious cow..really?
08:42 AM on 07/28/2010
Really ? This was the only solution? Not for nothing but the cow was "stampeding " through an empty fair.
04:20 AM on 07/28/2010
What? No one could take the time to catch the cow? It was just easier to shoot? That says alot about how we value life--- human or otherwise.
01:42 AM on 07/28/2010
It was before the fair opened, and the cow wasn't doing anything dangerous. They could have just postponed the opening and gotten the cow in it's pen slowly. It's disgusting that the cow's own veterinarian told the cops to shoot it. This whole incident is disgusting.

This horrible they couldn't find a better way to stop her? This proves they are disorganized and shouldn't have animals there. A holes!!!

A is a pretty docile animal. I wonder what could have scared this poor cow. Where were the animal handlers? I think someone got scared and just impulsively shot the cow. Sick and sad.

Cows are born scared.....the environment would have spooked her for sure, shadows, buildings noises, no need to shoot her though. I once saw a tv report of a steer stampeding through a neighbourhood......he was trotting along the residential road. Trotting is not stampeding, sensationalist journalism run amok!

So the pregnant cow dies because certain humans are selfish and incompetent.

When are these people going to start thinking about the animals they profit from? Would it have been too expensive for one of the handlers to have a tranquilizer gun? It makes me sick!
