Anna Wintour's House, Neighborhood Prepare For Obama (PHOTOS)

First Posted: 07/28/10 01:10 PM ET Updated: 05/25/11 06:10 PM ET

Preparations were underway Wednesday morning at Vogue editor Anna Wintour's Greenwich Village townhouse. President Obama is slated to attend a fundraiser there Wednesday night for the Democratic National Committee, with entrance reportedly costing $30,000.

Sullivan Street, where Wintour's home is located, as well as neighboring MacDougal were already closed by police by 9AM (the townhouses on the west side of Sullivan Street, where Wintour lives, share a garden with those on the east side of MacDougal Street). Barricades lined nearby Bleecker and Thompson Streets. Neighbors were told they should carry ID and proof of residence to be able to return home later in the day.

Meanwhile a truck was unloading white floral centerpieces and extra air conditioner units shortly after 11AM.

I live near there. I could go if I starve for half a year and have no healthcare or home. Nice to see Obama meeting the people who really matter.

30k a head makes this private meal a great deal. Why an average Oligarch gets to meet not just the most powerful man in the world but the most powerful decision maker in fashion!

Clearly taxes on the wealthy are far too low. Clearly we need a truly progressive president and a party that does not look like the Republicans.

I live around the corner - it's a lovely block with historic townhouses abutting a large central garden. It is a well preserved section of the quaint Greenwich Village of yesteryear and I appreciate every single day that there are people who care enough to maintain homes such as these.

how much does it cost to live in that area?

My modest apartment is a far cry from Anna's elegant townhouse, but I pay about $1350 for a 1BR walk-up. It's a very nice neighborhood to live in; safe (as long as you pay attention), convenient to nearly every subway, lots of great little cafes, near SoHo and the amazing west side bike path, and right down the street from Washington Square Park!

I like this Bi Racial president
He knows how to mix with white & black, rich & poor, male & female, urban & rural, employed and unemployed, local people and international guests.
Flexible, adaptable, fairly strategic leader-motivates and influences, political and sensible.

Nobody raised eyebrows and hell when Bush and his Repub predecessors raised funds in the past similar to Ana's event. So what's the big deal now with Pres Obama? All political leaders and politicians in any country do the same thing. And how about the record-breaking vacations of Dubya during his two terms.

All I just wish now is to be able to see Ana's house (the interior) even on photos here.

Ana was filmed in her house for the movie, The September Issue. For anyone curious about her life, this is a must-see.

Seriously President Obama could you try to be even more out of touch? One can go on and on about fund raising but this is Bush league and doing stuff for the "small" people like he is doing in NJ. Who knew the candidate most like Mr Bush was the one on the Democratic ticket? I had my suspicions. No public option, Gitmo/ Bagram still operational, rendition still underway, DADT still not repealed, the wars are being prolonged and now American citizens ordered dead without trial by the POTUS. Sigh, what's next renewing tax cuts for your fund raising birthday buddies? Thankfully I didn't vote for you Mr. President and at this rate you can raise all the money you want (while working for us) but you will not buy my vote.

Feel Free to Flame and Flag but I don't care what the "other guy" does, I care about what this guy, the President of the United States does.

He does have to work within the systems already in place. Change doesn't occur instantly. Besides, he's still better than his competition in '08.
