Max Talbot: Alex Ovechkin 'Is A Real Douche'

Alex Ovechkin Max Talbot

There's nothing like hockey news in July. On 105.9 The X, Pittsburgh Penguins winger Max Talbot expressed his honest opinions on rival and NHL star Alex Ovechkin.

"I just hate the guy," Talbot said. The hosts asked him when he first realized that he felt that way about the two-time MVP winner.

Talbot said he started to feel that way at the NHL awards last summer when teammate Evgeni Malkin introduced him to Ovechkin.

"Malkin knew Ovechkin and introduced me to him and the first impression wasn't great," said Talbot. "I'm not really gonna say what happened, but I'm like, 'Ok, this guy is a real douche.'"

You can listen to the entire interview here.

What do you expect when the russian farm boy makes it big? Anyone who has spent any time in eastern Europe can attest to this track suit, and gold chain clubbing douchery. Love it Max!

As a Flyers fan, Max Talbot is one of my least-liked Pens, but he got it right here.

Ovie - the LeBron of the NHL.

Tons of talent, zero leadership, zero clutch.

Ha. I love it. I watched my Canadian Olympic team whoop on Ovie, then got to see my beloved Habs whoop on Ovie. Now this.

Max Talbot is the one with the Stanley Cup ring, something that Ovechkin doesn't have, and probably never will.

The only question here is: who the hell is Max Talbot? Does he drive the Zamboni or something?

Talbot can't carry Ovechkin's jock and he knows it. Talbot 2010 regular season stats.....45 games played, 2 goals, 5 assists, and a plus/minus of minus 9. 13 playoff games 2 goals, 4 assists, +/- plus 1. Career 306 games played 44 goals, 43 assists,+/- minus 24. He is a 3rd or 4th line role player. Plain and simple.
Ovechkin's 2010 stats.....72 games played, 50 goals, 59 assists, +/- plus 45. 7 playoff games, 5 goals, 5 assists, +/- plus 5. Career 396 games played, 269 goals, 260 assists, +/- plus 64.
Personally I am not a fan of either of them but I would pay to watch Ovechkin, while I would never pay to watch Talbot. Talbot scored the game winning, series winning goal against the Detroit Red Wings in 09, which is Talbot's claim to fame. Which gives me all I need to hate Talbot forever. GO WINGS!!!!!!!!!!

Hmmmm...a Pittsburgh Penguin defensive player, assigned to check a Washington Superstar, who probably gets the best of him 80% of the time and then beats him down verbally everytime he does it. Why would the Pittsburgh player call him out...besides the fact that WAS-PIT is the biggest rivalry going in Hockey right now.

Ovechkin is not my favorite player, but he is a force of nature. I wish more people watched the game so that they can know how good he is. Talbot is also a solid player. I would happily have him on my team. This is a (minor) classic "amp 'em up" sports show down. I don't have a dog in this fight, but I hope that stuff like this turns on more people to watching the game of ice hockey if this "hype" is what it takes to move people. Spar away boys, when the puck drops the numbers should be up.

calicanuck, I couldn't agree more! I love watching Ovechkin and he is great for the sport and like you, I have no dog in this fight either and given I live in Minnesota, my fav team is the Wild. Ovechkin brings alot of excitement and some awfully pretty goals to the game. He really can be electric.
