'The View' & Obama: President Says He Won't Attend Chelsea Clinton's Wedding (VIDEO)

First Posted: 07/29/2010 12:37 pm Updated: 05/25/2011 5:10 pm

President Obama chatted with the ladies of "The View" on Thursday morning and he said that he isn't going to Chelsea Clinton's wedding. He remarked, "It would be tough enough having one president at a wedding, you don't want two presidents at a wedding." Also, he wasn't actually invited, he explained, because, "I think that Hillary and Bill, properly, want to keep this as a thing for Chelsea and her soon-to-be husband." See what he had to say about Malia's and Sasha's weddings.

So it was inappropriate to invite her mother's boss, the President of our country, to her wedding. In my opinion, this is truly rude in the most rudimentary sense of the word. Too bad small people cannot buy class. In the days when manners counted, the President would have been invited.

Even the top professors have to teach remedial courses at some point in their careers; consider The View a remedial course at which President Obama had to explain pertinent points - to those who don't want to read the WHOLE book and prefer the gist, with a very clear outline

The interns that troll for HP for college credits are not very good. Try getting some from the Ivy League next semester.

The President is becoming wiser to the antics of the MSM and Faux news. He knows if he went to this wedding the MSM would cover him extensively so the critics could complain about how he stole Chelsea's moment and he shouldn't have came and here it would be "how much taxpayer money"..blah blah blah..

It's bad enough that her father's trade sex for political pardon of her husband, Denise Rich, will be there, never mind another detraction from what one hopes would be the couple's wedding day.

I cannot believe he went on that show.

Of course you can't. You're whole modus operandi is about opposing every little thing he does.

I'm not sure what the big whoop is. This is Chelsea's day, not Bill or Hillary's. It's a day to share with loved ones...Inviting the POTUS sounds like they A) want a gift, B) Want attention taken away from Chelsea.

I had a big wedding and I invited MY friends, not my parents friends or co workers.

If Obama attended her wedding, he'd cause a riot. He would get ALL the attention.

I'll explain later.

This is a political blog and not a wedding planner blog, so most of the comments are through the political filter. My guess is that it was a lot simpler than that.

Ceremony: when/where is the POTUS seated? The SS will want him in a designated place. Shall he be seated early or just before the wedding party, but then doesn't that make him look part of the wedding party?

Reception: same questions. Will the bride and groom's friends wish to meet the POTUS? Will this end up looking like a second reception line in addition to (or superceding) the couple's? Who does he sit with? (anybody who thinks this isn't a major problem has never planned a formal reception....or watched a sit-com involving weddings.)

The local police chief was already concerned that they could handle security and crowd control. Adding the POTUS would advance the problem geometrically.

Easy answer: don't invite the Prez. And Obama's smart enough to know why.

I think it's possible that the Clinton family has already spoken with the President and First Lady regarding not being invited to the wedding. President Obama doesn't have to explain private conversations that he has with Clinton that don't involve the politics of the USA.

Hillary's running I guess.

All Hillary's running would do is to split the party, damage the president, and in the end damage herself. She won't be returning to a long distinguished career in the Senate and she would never pull the independent voter.

She'll be 70 - it's doubtful she'd run.

I won't be voting for Bushlite Obama in 2012 and if you wan to keep progressives and even democrats you better get you guy to start working for the people rather than Wall Street.
02:33 AM on 07/30/2010
I would have invited him. Seems rude of them.

This wedding leaves a bad taste. It would be receiving no attention had it not cost 2 million and been kept so "secret". If Hillary is indeed planning a run in 2012, this wedding WILL come back to bite her. The Clintons look very elitist with this whole shindig. I mean, even the filthy rich Bushes had a relatively low-key wedding for Jenna.

Look, this is Chelsea's day, and all eyes are to be on her. Can you imagine the distraction the President would prove to be? The place, as it is, will already be crawling with Secret Service personnel. I gather they invited ONLY 400 people, and some of the Clintons' biggest contributors and highest-profile friends were left off the list - people like Barbra Streisand, a longtime friend. She'd also be a distraction from the bride. Give it up.

Fat Oprah is on the guest list. Why? I would think that Barbra Streisand and her husband would be invited guests. Oprah already has an ego the size of a world globe and this will make her think that she walks on water.

$200 million. That's what Republican-aligned special interests have pledged to spend on the 2010 election. When our administration and this movement decided to take on the special interests, we knew we were making a choice. And the consequences are clear. These groups have fought us at every turn in our struggle for change, and now they're trying to drown out our voices -- and our accomplishments -- with their campaign cash this fall.

We're not going to sit back and let that happen. Today, Organizing for America is announcing the By the People Fund with the goal of getting 3 million citizen donations to fuel our grassroots campaign for the upcoming election.

With our By the People Fund, we're going to make a statement this fall and holding the Republicans and their special-interest allies accountable.

We've all gone to the mat with these folks time and again. Now these groups have one goal in mind when it comes to November 2nd -- erasing the progress we've made together.

By spending an unprecedented amount of cash to support Republicans, they're doing their best to buy their way back into power. It's no wonder that each and every Republican in the Senate on Tuesday voted to allow these special interests to have a greater say in our elections. Their vote will allow these groups to spend millions on campaign ads -- and not have to reveal who's actually behind them. https://donate.barackobama.com/ByThePeople.

greed feeds power then power feeds greed Billions, 10 years trillion. What nation on earth has campaigns last 2 years and spend $200 million dollars in campaigns? none? Other nations only last 8 weeks 3 months tops?
