Al Gore Sexual Harassment Charges DROPPED: Portland Authorities Won't Pursue Case

Portland authorities signaled on Friday that they will no longer continue to investigate charges made against former Vice President Al Gore stemming from allegations he groped a licensed massage therapist in 2006.

Local television station KOIN reports:

The complaining witness, Molly Hagerty, stated that she was sexually abused during a massage session at the Hotel Lucia when Gore was in Portland.

Hagerty failed a polygraph test during the course of the investigation, and there was no DNA evidence on the pants she claimed she wore during the alleged incident, according to investigators.

Gore has vehemently denied the charges of sexual misconduct that recently came to light when the Portland Police Bureau signaled it was opening an investigation into the case.

After news broke that the probe would be dropped, Gore spokesman Kalee Kreider said in a statement:

"Mr. Gore unequivocally and emphatically denied this accusation when he first learned of its existence three years ago. He respects and appreciates the thorough and professional work of the Portland authorities and is pleased that this matter has now been put to rest."

The National Enquirer first broke news of controversy last month.

Multnomah County District Attorney Michael D. Schrunk issued a statement summarizing the deficiencies in the case:

1. Ms. Hagerty, who has red hair, states she called Mr. Gore immediately following the alleged incident and told him to "dream of redheaded women" seemingly in contradiction to her assertions that she was terrified of Mr. Gore. Two days after the alleged incident Ms. Hagerty also sent an email to the Hotel Lucia stating that she appreciated the business referrals she received from the hotel. She did not mention any problem with Mr. Gore;

2. Witnesses at the hotel where the alleged incident occurred state they do not remember seeing or hearing anything unusual---directly contradicting Ms. Hagerty's published claim in the July 12, 2010 of the National Enquirer that she was "shaking and in shock" and "rushed down the hall and to the lobby where the front desk clerk noticed she was upset was asked if she was OK";

3. Forensic testing of pants retained by Ms. Hagerty as possible evidence are negative for the presence of seminal fluid;

4. Ms. Hagerty has not provided as repeatedly requested medical records she claims are related to the case;

5. Ms. Hagerty has also failed to provide other records related to the case;

6. Ms. Hagerty failed a polygraph examination;

7. It appears Ms. Hagerty was paid by the National Enquirer for her story; and

8. Mr. Gore voluntarily met with detectives and denied all of the allegations.

Glad this is over and done with, although Gore's divorce announcement didn't help his credibility.

No he wasn't, these stories are not in any way related. Al Gore was the victim of a false allegation and the only person to blame is the accuser.
01:48 PM on 08/02/2010
Of course he was cleared. If anyone saw the picture of the woman who made the complaint then you'd know it was not true.
10:12 AM on 08/02/2010
To be accurate, Al Gore was never charged so there were no charges to be dropped. Let's be legally clear about this.

There are others that said the same thing that Molly Hagerty said.....one in LA and one in Japan.

Both are being investigated by their respective police depts. I don't think the republicans organized that effort now did they?

"one in LA and one in Japan"

What is the source of that intelligence?

I think it was likely made up, and shouldn't the cops being investigating any allegations anyway. It would seem not investigating them would be scandalous. What a coincidence that others eventually piled on with the same allegations, although not until Portland police reopened the case. Never seen that happen before in a lawsuit potentially involving the personal behavior of a wealthy man. Did I forget to mention that I'm carrying John Edwards love child? This especially unusual because I happen to be a man. I'm just waiting for my check from the Enquirer before I blow this whole thing wide open.

Also, just out of curiosity, does anyone really think that the democratic party somehow controls a police force in some city in Japan?

I believe he paid off Paula Jones (is that the right name?) in some harassment thing. But Gore was not even charged with anything. Some accusations were made, investigated, and not found to have any substance. End of story you would think.

Sadly, Gore was once again the victim of republican dirty tricks.

"Al Gore is a sad individual, he is a compulsive Liar, and now all this"

By his own admission Gore was a little sad after the 2000 election. However, he's told no lies and he's been cleared of any wrong-doing.

Gore was born wealthy, but his recent earnings has been from investments in new technologies. His environmental work has been mostly on his own dime.

I find it amusing that the people who try to claim that global warming is all about are perfectly happy to ignore the fact that fossil fuels, and oil in particular, make up the most profitable industry in the history of mankind. These are people who get 400 million retirement packages, but we all know that the REAL money is in an industry that's barely gotten started and gets almost no government money compared to oil.

How many of you have ever taken a "lie detector" test? I took one administered by my employer back before there were laws against such things. I flunked questions I should have passed and vice versa. Or so they say. For example, I was told I flunked a question about stealing from co-workers, but passed when I indicated that I had never lied to a figure in authority. Not that I could come up with some particular lie, but its far more likely that I had lied to a parent or teacher than that I had stolen from a co-worker--I just hadn't.

There could very well be some degree of truth to Ms. Hagerty's allegations, but that she is incapable of helping meaningfully with any prosecution--civil or criminal. There is an entire class of people out there who have personality disorders that make them both vulnerable to attack and prone to lie, and generally deny reality--a really lousy combination. To those who deal with such people, the concept of someone claiming to have been distraught while sending out an email thanking the hotel for referrals is sadly unsurprising.

Note to public figures: three hours massages, by someone whose background you do not know, in your hotel room without anyone else present--not a good idea.

Where was it said that it was a three hour massage?

This isn't about you. It's about the accuser's veracity and she apparently had none.

Doesn't anyone, besides me, think it a little strange that the Gore's announced their impending split by email just a few days before the story broke!

"Doesn't anyone, besides me, think it a little strange that the Gore's announced their impending split by email just a few days before the story broke! "

Are you suggesting that Al Gore has a crystal ball? It means that the masseuse was the one reacting to events in Gore's life or it was a mere coincidence.

Ah, a new right wing conspiracy theory! How we've missed those since the Clinton administration. Not.

So I assume that when I tune to FOX tomorrow the end of this matter will be their #1 headline story. After all, that's the way they handled the coverage when this broke.

Reporting, in headline style, will be the only "fair and balanced" thing to do, so surely that's how they wi;; handle it.

Wrong, Fox didn't spend any more time on this then the other cable networks or give it top headline status. They reported the initial story (as did CNN and MSNBC) but there was not anything new to report until the PPD finished their investigation.

In the future make sure your political opinions match reality before posting.

In the future I will type in big bold letters across the top: THIS IS SARCASM!!!" so that the sentient-challenged might better understand what they are reading. I truly thought that there couldn't possibly be anyone out there who would fail to grasp the meaning of my post...but...

Again, thanks for the critique...

All things considered - I'm surprised this sort of thing doesn't happen more often - now that we know for certain nothing is more important in the USA than making a fast buck - and no one cares how you make it.

Wouldn't it stand to reason that shakedowns would be a growth industry?
