Floods In Pakistan Leave Thousands Stranded (PHOTOS)

Days of heavy monsoonal rains have brought severe floods to northwest Pakistan, where an estimated 430 people have been killed. Flood waters have ripped through hundreds of villages, torn down 60 bridges and countless buildings.

The Associated Press reports,

"This is a natural calamity, and we will do whatever is possible to reach the flood-affected people and to help them," said Mian Iftikhar Hussain, the information minister for Khyber-Pakhtoonkhwa province. "We appeal to the world community to help us. We need a lot of assistance."

The Pakistani army is using boats and helicopters to conduct search and rescue missions in the affected regions. Over 400,000 people are believed to still be stranded by the floods.

In addition to the Pakistani army, United Nations workers are also reportedly on the ground in the region, supplying tents, medicine and other supplies to displaced families. There is no word yet on how to donate to the disaster relief efforts.
