He should have defected when he had the chance. Just like some other players that went "missing".

MUST BE GREAT TO BE ABLE TO GO INTO THE CONSTRUCTION BUSINESS RATHER THAN BEING PUT UP IN FRONT OF A FIRING SQUAD.

If this was the mans calling, passion and dream, he may well prefer death. The punishment is designed to humiliate him and make existence unbearable.

He's lucky that he wasn't shot.

Losing world cup soccer coaches are an endangered species.

From the headline you'd think that getting "forced" to doing "construction work" is on a par with getting sent to Dante's Inferno. Fist of all there are literally millions of Americans who would beg for a construction job right now. More to the point there are about 9 million productive construction workers in the US and they are not being "forced" in any way. What planet do the headline writers live on?

I don't think many Americans would beg for a construction worker's job in North Korea.

Maybe they should force YOU to be a construction worker in North Korea and see how you like it...

Pretend you are a teenage boy or girl in the DPRK, and you are approached by the authorities and offered a position on a sports team, which will possibly compete internationally.

Knowing sports precedents from the past, what do you do?

Yes I am a witch. Deal with it.

Goodness.
I'd heard that His Supreme Weirdliness was using his Super-powers to telepathically direct the coach during the games. Shouldn't that make His Imperial Nuttiness responsible?
Can the Little Kim Clan get any fruitier?

Rule #1: Dear Leader only directs them when they're successful. When they're not, it's always someone else's fault.

I suppose it's better than being gunned down in Columbia for similar things.

And why is this shocking - oh, that's right, in America if you run one business into the ground it's a sure thing they'll give you a CEO position in the next company. And we wonder how things got this far.

Maybe they should have sent the Coach to the U.S. Then he can "suffer" the extended unemployment checks that so many liberals love.

Wow. It just hit me how blessed i am for having my freedom as given to me by God alone. I pray for the good people of North Korea who (by no fault of their own but by just being born there)are languishing in the hands of a dictator.

LOL! I am surprised he wasn't executed!!! Like one of their Government officials recently.
11:50 PM on 07/30/2010
Too right. This is a pleasant surprise. I was expecting him and the whole squad to face execution. What they call over there "The Penalty Shootout With Ooomph." At least coachy can whistle at dishy Korean women during his lunch hour. Good on him.

Kim Jong-Il is getting soft in his dotage.

Has there been any confirmation that he's alive following the total drubbing in the World Cup???

What? No executions? Dear Leader seems to have wimped out.

Ol Kim Jong is losing his touch. And I was going to nominate him to play the Queen of Hearts in the production of Alice planned for this Fall in Santa Fe. Now, I'm not so sure.
