New York Cosmos To Return, Says Pele At Copa NYC (PHOTOS)

The New York Cosmos are back.

Brazilian soccer legend Pele made the announcement at halftime of the Copa NYC final match.

The Cosmos were powerhouses of the North American Soccer League, but the team folded in 1985, a year after the NASL closed up shop.

Now the Cosmos plan to join Major League Soccer and foster a rivalry with the New York Red Bulls.

Pele was in fine spirits as he gave out autographs, chatted with Mayor Michael Bloomberg and delighted a bunch of youngsters.

See his jubilation in the photos below.

I remember when the Rowdies would beat the Cosmos like a rented mule. Pele looks like he could still play for the Selecao.

Please don't drop white phosphorous on the young soccer players. We know how your country feels about brown children.

As usual you are wrong at all levels. My country is the USA. Israel does not drop white phosphorus except as allowed for use under the rules of war. And Arabs are not brown but completely caucasians. Finally you are a spammer who infects and infests every thread with your brain dead irrelevancies. Just get lost.

They should just rename the New York Red Bulls as "New York Cosmos"

Well, since they play in a nice, new stadium in Harrison, they should rename them "New Jersey Red Bulls."

How about the middle of 5th Avenue since Mayor Moneybags likes to close off streets for any reason he chooses.:-)

No, he'd never inconvenience the socio-economic elite like that.

Where's Pele been all these years?

I bet that he's going to make a big appearance at the Rio Olympics in 2016.
