Colorado Senate Candidate Ken Buck Insists Rape, Incest Are No Excuse For An Abortion

Ken Buck On Abortion Opposition: 'I Don't Believe In Exceptions Rape Or Incest'

Tea Party-backed contender Ken Buck, who's facing-off against Jane Norton in Colorado's GOP Senate primary says he firmly opposes abortion rights and doesn't "believe in the exceptions of rape or incest."

Greg Sargent at the Washington Post relays how Buck explained his staunch pro-life stance to a constituent of the Centennial State on Monday:

"I am pro-life, and I'll answer the next question. I don't believe in the exceptions of rape or incest. I believe that the only exception, I guess, is life of the mother. And that is only if it's truly life of the mother.

To me, you can't say you're pro-life and say -- if there is, and it's a very rare situation where one life would have to cease for the other life to exist. But in that very rare situation, we may have to take the life of the child to save the life of the mother.

In that rare situation, I am in favor of that exception. But other than that I have no exceptions in my position."

Nevada GOP Senate candidate Sharron Angle recently made headlines for articulating a similar hard-line view on the abortion issue. HuffPost's Sam Stein reports:

In a radio interview Angle did in late June, the Tea Party favorite re-affirmed her pro-life sensibilities (rigid, as they are, even within Republican circles), when she insisted that a young girl raped by her father should know that "two wrongs don't make a right." Much good can come from a horrific situation like that, Angle added. Lemons can be made into lemonade.

A survey released this week by Rasmussen Reports shows Buck is the current frontrunner in Colorado's Republican Senate primary with the state's August 10 election less than a week away. Buck's ability to lock-up voter support has appeared uninhibited by any of a number of gaffes he's made along the way.

Watch video of Buck defining his pro-life position on abortion here.

I have a challenger for all the "pro-life" GOPers out there. Stop talking about how much you value life and protesting at abortion clinics. Get out there and DO something to make the lives of people who are already living (i.e. not in the womb) better. Stop being so greedy and selfish and actually show some compassion for your fellow citizens. Help make prenatal care accessible to all women. Try  Read More...

Men AND women -Put your money where your mouths are and SUPPORT PLANNED PARENTHOOD AND NARAL!! Regardless of your stances on abortion or birth control, these two institutions fight the long, hard battles for women everywhere so they have access to sane voices when they have questions about healthcare, birth control, & abortion:

CAN@prochoiceamerica.org

For those of you who would punish women like this jerk of a man would with his so-called "beliefs", I say to you -walk a mile in our shoes. How dare you tell women they must bare children which may result from rape or incest?

I'm beyond disgusted. America is a land lost in a cesspool of backward, blow-hard demagogic politicians. Keep your hands off my body and out of my healthcare decisions.

I want to throw up..There we go again. We have made a few steps forward and we are being thrusted back to the Middle Ages..It is still a man's World who would not be there without women and yet we are still not considered equal to men and they still control our lives.
No man should have any control over any woman!

Buck, and other mouthpieces of "prolife"...if these horrible acts of rape or incest would happen in their immediate families, they may not be so "prolife"...the GOPers; in the womb=prolife...outside the womb=prochoice and you're on your own; you can always make lemonade and pick yourself up by the bootstraps according to the GOPers.

I guess Buck doesn't want any of his "lovers" to have an abortion.

Another asinine politician and there are millions.

“No excuse.” Before I get to the heart of the matter, I will clarify exactly, the
meaning of 'excuse'. Excuses are statements given by the individual to
justify the continuation of inappropriate behaviour(s). Ken Buck, under this
context supports the perpetrators. Not a politician I would vote for, under any
circumstance.

Life begins at conception, therefore I don‘t take lightly to the move to abort an
unborn child. There are however exceptions. NO FEMALE should be made to
endure a pregnancy arising from rape and/or incest. In doing so, you re-traumatized
the victim; forcing them to relive the grooming and/or stalking which culminated in
such heinous acts. To deny abortions where rape and/or incest are involved, the
victimizer’s actions by default, are applauded and they are told indirectly, they are
not held accountable. How so? Behind this perspective is the old adage,
‘it’s God's will.’ IT ISN‘T. God DOES NOT sanction conception arising
from rape and/or incest. Only man. Man is accountable. And it is for this
reason alone, abortion IS required (it should be mandatory) for rape and/or incest.

this will be a common law fact in 100 years. the majority of Americans cannot dictate law to all Americans if it violates the rights of anyone.

unfortunately, this will take another 100 years to become reality

the majority of Americans cannot tell gays they cant marry. the majority of religious people cant tell women they cant have abortions, the majority of angry white people cant tell immigrants they cant be American, the lists go on and on.

heres a clue, America. you cannot legislate or constitutionalize discrimination...
08:42 PM on 08/06/2010
And trust me, the list of what you cannot do would get longer and longer with the Far Right in charge.

Heartless and stupid... he probably thinks incest is a "family matter" and daddy's God-given right. As for those whining rape victims, they asked for it. Any woman, or man who values women, who votes for Buck is a fool.

That's a real shame for women everywhere. I am pro decision, but I myself would not have an abortion. However, to "sentence" a young girl child, teenager, woman to carry a baby as a result of rape or incest is truly cruel and heartless. I assume you will be around to help that child/girl/woman after that baby is born and to aid with the psychiatrist bills she'll run up trying to get over being victimized twice. Brava for you! Really sad.

Fair enough. It's a tricky one if folks want to go the Proposition route though. 50% plus one is a low bar.

I'm fanning you for the civility and smarts of your responses. It's good to have someone with whom I disagree who will engage without insanity.

Looks like we got Sharon Angel's brother running for Senate here in Colorado.

Tomorrow's news headline from this T-Bagger will state that he was instructed by God himself to run and that American law should be based on Biblical rather than Constitutional Law.

You have a right to your moral opinion, Mr.Buck. You even have a right to voice that opinion in public, even if it's quite moot that you would ever have to face such a tragic decision on your own.

But you also don't have the right to force other people to suffer the consequences of your personal decision. At least not while there are many of us who will vote against you.
