Scary how controlling Muslim countries are and how they help each other to oppress.
10:21 AM on 08/08/2010
This story is buried under many nonsense news about Iran, so Obama should skip the political pressure on him to do the right thing and accept the invitation to talk face to face with Ahmadinejad.
11:15 AM on 08/08/2010
This is the real story.

Nice try at deflection, but a woman sentenced to death by stoning for adultery who then has her children and lawyer harassed by IRI is not only a compelling news item, but illustrative at how IRI operates.

Each time I think you have reached low bottom of immorality, you will surprise me and sink even lower.

Only a depraved fundamentalist such as yourself would find lampooning of this alliance the "bottom of immorality." Better go work on your prayer bump dude.

Aw I can't wait for Cameron to get his wish of Turkey becoming part of the EU. Let's see how many Europeans get ready to grab their ankles towards Mecca and how many Geert Wilders will blossom.
01:31 AM on 08/06/2010
There is ZERO chance Turkey will become a member of EU within the next decade. And good riddance to bad trash.

Can you articulate one economic benefit for Turkey in EU membership?

You can't fight in here this is the war room!!

To think Turkey wanted to join the European Union - right, I can't even understand why they are in NATO.

This shows that their alliance with Iran is not just lip service, they are actively supporting some of the Iranian governments most inhumane policies and practices. This man is under arrest for nothing more then defending his client - his wife is in a prison known for torture held without charges.

I see Hassan has 1984 as his Icon - the irony is amazing. It is like he thinks Orwell was writing a book on how to govern because the Iranian regime is about as close a governing system as you will find and yet he shamelessly shills for them.
02:15 PM on 08/05/2010
Hassan probably isn't aware that Animal Farm is banned in many Muslim countries.....

GREAT comment Rock... Fanned.

The "1884 Icon" is for westerners who have bought slogans like:

War is Peace,
Everybody are Equal, but some are more EQUAL than others,..

Before looking at the other countries try to understand what is wrong with your own country please.

Why American people cannot stop wars that they have been against since 2006 and why an antiwar candidate entering congress turns into a warmonger overnight?

Why we are going toward another war with Iran?

Why a country ignores its own interests to defend Israel's interests in ME?

Why all media in west are focusing on Iran and demonizing her?

Why Obama has refused to sit down and talk to president Ahmadinejad, despite several invitation from Ahmadinejad?

Why Obama says that he has extended hand toward Iran, but in reality Iran has received only sticks?

Why when Israel kills somebody, she is not criticized but when an Israeli dies everybody criticizing elected government of Palestinians HAMAZ and call them terrorists? Are Israelis more equal than Palestinians?

Please if you want to see Big Brother, just turn on your TV and look at news with open eyes. Big Brother propaganda is there in your own TV set!

Your, my, humans' enemies are within and not 10000 miles away in Iran.

Even this story has been changed in western media to fit their purpose of creating negative feelings as capital to wage future wars for Big Brothers, Israel and MIC.

How does the whole dhimmi think work into that?

One year after the unprecedented mass arrest of journalists and activists in Iran, which labeled the country as the "biggest prison of journalists in the world," reports of intensive abuse and torture continue to pour out from the Islamic Republic's cells and wards, the most shocking being sexual abuses.

In the latest case, according to sources from Tehran's notorious Evin Prison, detained journalist and renowned member of Iran's Center of Human Rights Defenders Abdolreza Tajik was forcibly stripped naked and "dishonored" while being interrogated in the presence of Tehran's deputy prosecutor. Details of the alleged offense have not been mentioned by the sources or family members, but the term "dishonored" is often used in Persian culture to describe sexual assault or abuse, including in legal context.

I see no mention in any of the postings, any concerns for the safety on this man's wife (whom the Iranians are holding in solitary confinement) or his daughter. Oh well I guess that their being females it doesn't matter.

You're making quite an assumption that people actually read the full story.

People posting re this story are very intense about speculating, demonizing, and making sweeping statements.
But not one mention of the issue at the heart of this, namely, a hatred of women.
Yes it may be more blatant in this manifestation, in Iran.
But it is a horrendous circumstance in many parts of the world, however more or less ugly and obvious as this instance.
Women - and the Feminine principal in all life - are under attack. hugh hefner's in the current news, unapologetically extolling his belief that women are sex objects. Women and children are the victims of sex trading in massive numbers. The Internet is a (neutral) vector for this trade and exploitation, making it nearly endemic.
Time to stop the debasement - everywhere. In case we haven't noticed, mother nature's fed up and talking back.

The smearing of Turkey continues.

Funny how they bury this part at the bottom of the article that iisnt even shown on this page.

"The Turkish government is in close co-operation with other authorities to grant him asylum as soon as possible"
07:03 AM on 08/05/2010
Funny how you cut off the rest of that sentence.

"said Orhan Tung, a Turkish embassy spokesman in London"

So Turkey is saying they are working on it. They also wouldn't comment on concerns for his safety. But I assume you cropped it like you did because it looks like it's an objective statement from the reporter and not Turkey itself.

And that ignores the fact that Turkey wouldn't allow him to seek asylum in the US or Norway, despite their offers, and was FORCED to do so in Turkey or face extradition to Iran. And that Turkish police also threatened to return him to Iran.

Or are Amnesty International, the UN, the US, Norway, and various other human rights groups just looking to "smear" Turkey? And as far as what's on this page, you'll notice it's the first sentence of the actual article.

Turkey has helped a lot of persians to scape Iran, they work with united nation to place them around the world, including some of my relatives and their kids.

And there goes another brave soul working in a corrupt system. Trying to defend juveniles on death row and people like Ashtiani. It's amazing to me that anyone still tries to do what is right in Iran when this is the way they are rewarded. It's shameful.

I see a bunch of smart warmongers here making fools out of a bunch of Iranians to give Israel an excuse to make a parking lot out of their country Iran.

Turkey isn't perfect, but they have recently allowed 50 Iranians (mostly journalists) who fled there after the '09 Iran presidential elections to stay there until they were granted permanent visas for Germany.

When will the US recognize that Turkey is abandoning all of the reforms implemented by its modern founder, Ataturk, incluing secular education and women's rights? Too bad this guy couldn't make it to the American Embassy in Istabule - or maybe he did and the Americans handed him over to Turkey. I no longer have faith in our government to be honest or to call out the facts of the case. The is outrageous. The woman will be hung in Iran. Everyone who tried to help her will be ruined, if not imprisoned for life, which may turn out not to be long at Evin Prison. Barak and Hillary are very naive about what is actually happening in the Middle East with respect to increasing radicalism of previously relatively moderate Moslem countries like Turkey.
