Julia Roberts: I'm A Hindu, I Don't Believe In Botox

Julia Roberts is on the cover of the September issue of Elle magazine, and inside she talks about not using Botox and how she is a practicing Hindu.

On Botox and plastic surgery:

"It's unfortunate that we live in such a panicked, dysmorphic society where women don't even give themselves a chance to see what they'll look like as older persons. I want to have some idea of what I'll look like before I start cleaning the slates. I want my kids to know when I'm pissed, when I'm happy, and when I'm confounded. Your face tells a story... and it shouldn't be a story about your drive to the doctor's office."

On religion (via People):

The entire Roberts-Moder family, goes to temple together to "chant and pray and celebrate. I'm definitely a practicing Hindu." says Roberts.

[On possible reincarnation] "Golly, I've been so spoiled with my friends and family in this life," she says. "Next time I want to be just something quiet and supporting."

On her family with husband Danny Moder: “The children became the shooting stars of him, of that thing we have. How lucky we are that we love each other so much that we burst into three pieces.”

She shot scenes of her upcoming 'Eat, Pray, Love' in India. She is seen below with with ashram owner Swami Dharmdev at Hari Mandir Ashram in Pataudi on the outskirts of New Delhi, India in September 2009.

Toying around with religion because she got cast in a movie or had the good fortune to have high cheekbones is the vapid indulgence of someone who takes herself much too seriously. Real actors embrace the reality of empathy and compassion and the diversity of realities within each individual: It's a humbling experience, and not an invitation to the "Religion-of-the -Month club.. "Movie Stars" embrace the self importance of being self important because they can afford to be self important and can drag their children along with them to "Temple." PS: people are dying and drowning all over the world: DO SOMETHING!

hatmadder...what an arrogant little snark you offer up. The only possible way for Julia to even know about Hinduism...is through working on a movie? Please, you cannot be that sublimely ignorant. By the way silly person, what are you doing about those dying people all over world? Getting on your computer telling a celebrity to do something? One more thing I think to remember is that lines do not show a person is mad. Your eyes do. If you are angry and do not move your forehead with or without botox, you still look mad. It's all in the eyes. IMHO

I think what makes Julia Roberts interesting is that she is actually a smart lady. She reads all time I heard. She's intellectual, and that's sort of rare in Hollywood. Most people only have a script inbetween their ears, and outside of that - there's not much to them. I don't think she deserved an Oscar for the movie she was awarded, but someone had to win. I hope her life is better than her movies...and it seems like she's emerging as an artistic creation who is very grounded and down to earth. That's a good role model for young actresses going into the business to study. She is someone to look up to. I did not always feel this way, but I do now.

Though I will agree, she is no innocent, just a person who grew up in a strange environment, became a mega-star, went through a lot, and came out on the other side doing apparently pretty well. People have such a misunderstanding of proper use of Botox. I've used it for ten years. The only thing it does is prevent me from having those deep vertical lines between my eyebrows, and the headaches that go along with the constant brow-furrowing that a lot of us do.

Some here have pointed to me that I should not respond in the way that I have. To them this is what I have to say.

J evvs felt the same way, and never responded back to the 2000 years of anti semtisim from christians which culminated in the Hol0caiust. I can understand that they were very small in numbers and they would have been slaughtered if they had fought back 2000 years of abuse from christians.

I says, give them no quarters. Stike back as and when it happens. We Hindus are not small in numbers. I am sick and tired of "peacenik" Hindus who stay quiet at the constant h ate from christians and Islamists.

Unless you respond as and when it happens..by being assertive and point to the ridiculousness of their pretentious moral high ground, they would continue and continue the way they have done towards the J evvs.

Now, not responding to them with the same vigor and anger is eviI in books. It only reinforces the stereo type that Hindus will accept any c rap thats thrown at them.

One must always respond to the extent of upholding the truth and in rebutting false and specious attacks, but you also need to exercise judgement in how you respond to those attacks, keeping in mind that there are all kinds (of good, bad, in between, behavior) of people.

Generally speaking, be educational in your responses (that tends to work best), but if hardened trolls keep trolling, isolate the bad conduct and bad actors in your response.

That's my view.
