With Barack Obama's former Senate seat in Illinois on the line this November, national Democrats have pulled together to try and hold the seat in the face of a strong challenge by Republican Mark Kirk.
In recent months, David Axelrod, David Plouffe and Vice President Joe Biden have come to Chicago to support and fundraise for the Democratic candidate, Alexi Giannoulias. Just this week, President Obama was in town doing just the same. And the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee has released a handful of ads and many more press releases panning Kirk for his campaign contributions and deriding him as a Republican obstructionist.
But at least one Democratic congressman apparently missed the memo.
In an interview with ABC-7 yesterday, Rep. Bobby Rush, a member of Chicago's congressional delegation, told a reporter that he's "not sold" on Alexi Giannoulias.
"We want a senator who is willing to work hard on the real issues that this state is confronted with," Rush said.
While it's unclear if Rush was talking about Giannoulias specifically, or just describing his ideal senator, the clip taken as a whole doesn't amount to a ringing endorsement of the Democratic candidate.
