Glenn Beck, Stephen King Exchange Brutal Insults (VIDEO)

First Posted: 8/6/10 Updated: 5/25/11

Glenn Beck and Stephen King have both written bestselling books, but the similarities stop there. The two have publicly declared their active dislike for each other, and have been lobbing insults over the past few days. Appearing on Bill O'Reilly's show last night, Glenn Beck responded to King's comments in his Entertainment Weekly column that Beck is like an "urban nut cake," a crazy person who believes that the world is going to end.

Glenn Beck brushed off Stephen King's comments, and took his own shot at King on the show, suggesting that King is jealous of the success of Beck's recent thriller, "The Overton Window." Beck on King: "He's the guy that usually, when I release my books at the same time, he's number 2."

I don't know why I read the articles with Beck in them - I just make myself angry.

King has been publishing successful novels since before Beck had dropped out of highschool or entered his 12-step program. He was making movies back before Beck first realized how to take advantage of the stupidity of the masses. Beck may sell a book here and there that outranks King, but King actually WRITES HIS OWN BOOKS.

Beck is always Number 2, even when he is in first place.

Whatʻs funny to me about this is Stephen King is going after the manner in which these guys do their job, whereas these guys are just simply trying to go after what exactly Stephen King does for a living. Hey, guess what guys, Stephen King knows he writes horror novels. We all do. Thatʻs right, horror novels, this is news to absolutely nobody, and he is good at it (when he wants be). Some of them are freaking scary. He does what he does because it has made him tons of money. Kind of like you.

I would disagree with KingÊ»s description of Glenn Beck though. Beck to me is more like if one of those street preachers one day realized that the crazier and more outlandish he got, the more money people threw in the hat. So he got a little crazier... and a crowd began to gather, everyone dropping a little cash until his hat was overflowing... and he kept going on and on this way until one day he found himself drawing a very direct line from Obama to cancer because Obama was visiting Copenhagen... and Beck looked around... and saw that he was rich.

The difference is that King actually writes his own books. He doesn't buy them from someone else then plaster his name on the cover.

Mr Beck...still playing that ratings card, even with books. I know...it's soooo hard to be humble when you're good (in your own mind) but give it a try Glenn. How you can compare yourself to King is about as 'unhumble' as it comes. You, sir, are a piece of cap with an ''r''.

Stephen King writes horror that transcends the genre. Glenn Beck is a horror.

If I opened the cover on a Glenn Beck novel would it shout at me? Not that I'd truly be tempted to even lift one up off the shelf.

I just cannot respect any person who has no volume button, or thinks that it's perfectly acceptable to present himself (a supposed authority) as any 12 yr. old with a bone to pick would. If he behaved like a somewhat reasonable adult I might be persuaded to at least give him a courtesy listen before I turned the channel anyway.

I think he would be an excellent addition to the Harry Potter's textbooks at Hogwarts. I can see his face now; eyes bulging, veins popping, mouth foaming, straining to come through the cover and scream at (maybe bite?) the reader. Too bad the series has finished filming it's last movie.

Always, IMHO.

Yeah, let's just keep in mind the fact that Beck was "assisted" by a team of no less than THREE ghost writers on this novel... the literary wet fart that it is. That said, I did find Beck and O'Reilly's little exchange here giggle-worthy. At least he has the media savvy not to get all indignant about being called a hack by one of the best selling authors in the world.

Beck should not call any other thing, living or dead, "number two." That's like calling the kettle...uh...ummm...brown. Smelly. And brown. That's Glenn Beck. He will always be America's Number Two.

Stephen King has made millions legitimately off of his REAL talent, unlike Beck. There's no comparison. King-talent, Beck- fearmonger

Beck is no writer.
Like O'Reilly and Limbaugh, he's nothing more than a propaganda pompom gurL for the right wing nuts.
Nothing more.

Both write fiction but Kings is more believable.

I have an idea for a book about a bus that has to speed around the city, keeping its speed over fifty. And if its speed dropped, the bus would explode! I think I'll call it..."The Bus That Couldn't Slow Down."
