Lady Gaga Back At Lollapalooza After Bombing In 2007

CHICAGO — Lady Gaga has come a long way since her appearance three years ago at the Lollapalooza music festival – but she hasn't forgotten some critics' less-than-stellar reviews of that performance.

The voice behind "Paparazzi" and "Bad Romance" commanded thousands of screaming fans in Chicago on Friday night to forget anyone who ever said they weren't pretty enough or skinny enough – or that "your Lollapalooza BMI stage show was a (expletive) trainwreck. You're a (expletive) superstar. You were born that way!"

The order was met with a roar from the sea of mostly teens and 20-somethings squished in front of the stage, bouncing up and down with their fists in the air.

It was redeeming moment and a far cry from Lady Gaga's first appearance at the festival in 2007, when she sang and played keyboard in a glittery bra and tiny, black bottoms. Recordings of the daytime performance show a distracted crowd and a sparse stage.

Three years later, a towering image of a scantily clad Lady Gaga flashed on a billowing white curtain. The singer started the show in a black jacket with sky-high shoulder pads. Next, she donned a shiny red cape, later dancing around in a transparent dress.

"My name is Lady Gaga. I thank you for coming to my show. I didn't used to be brave. In fact I wasn't very brave at all," she told her fans. "But you have made me brave, little monsters. So now I'm going to brave for you. Tonight, I want you to free yourself."

It's a subjective comment that Lady Gaga "bombed" at Lollapalooza in2007. Go to You Tube and watch her performances. She rocked! Not as good as today, of course, but you can see her development as a musical artist starting with the early videos of her school days piano playing until now. She grew and evolved but the core of talent was always there. She kept changing her look and musical style until she hit it.

Gaga is actually a very versatile performer and songwriter. She always wanted to be a "rock star" and she is evolving in that direction. I'm willing to bet her next album is more rock, less pop. Did you see her Today show performance? She can blues it up with the best of 'em as well. She went a little bluesy with Elton John at the Grammys. Go, Gaga!

It's called "show business" for a reason. Lady Gaga puts on a great show and she's proving to be a good businesswoman, just like Madonna, Lucille Ball and the other great women who did it there way.

I'd like to have just 1/10th of what these women net.

Her last song? I take it you're talking about "Alejandro", which was a charming little confection for the dance scene. It's fine for what it is, but it's not an epic like "Bad Romance". However, the video is a major league production which advances the music video world significantly.

It's a pity people get hung up in the visual appearance and antics of Lady Gaga instead of appreciating her fine voice and talent. She is definitely controversial, but I hardly see that when she is belting out a song.
