Bookstore Cats: Where Do They Live In California?

Cat

SFGate:

A bookstore cat is a shop's mascot and keeper, equally adept at charming customers and, when the lights go out, chasing away rodents. And so let us celebrate these furry souls - hopefully not an endangered species! - as more and more readers get their books delivered in shrink-wrapped packages from out-of-state corporate behemoths, or transmitted, in blips, to hand-held devices no cat would ever want to cuddle up to.

Yes! There should be a rule requiring bookstores to have a resident feline (or two). And comfy chairs.

Powell's Books (Portland, OR) had a store cat in the tech store named Fup (kinda backwards "Puff") who was a true cat. Nice to you one minute, bite your hand the next.

Yeah I remember Fup. I always enjoyed the adventures of Fup in their Monthly e newsletter. Rest in Peace Fup.

I adore cats and books, and I have a tee shirt with the Gorey cat on top of a pile of books which says "Books, cats. Life is great."

I really enjoyed this story..about 20yrs ago I was the owner of a small book store
in a rural town in Arizona. I had a great cat by the name of Albert she loved to
sit in the window or up by the cash register when she wanted attention. Her
favorite part of the day was the drive home..she would put her paws on the
steering wheel to guide us home .

I love bookstores - or any "lived-in" comfortable-looking establishment that has a cat on the premises. Sabrina is in the "pious kitty" pose that my late-lamented cat used to sleep in.
