Michelle Obama's Wardrobe Repeats: Better The First Time Around? (PHOTOS, POLL)

First Posted: 08/10/2010 8:08 am   Updated: 05/25/2011 5:15 pm

It's no secret that Michelle Obama loves her J. Crew cardigans and Azzedine Alaia belt, but what other pieces does she love? We've rounded up ten of the First Lady's repeated ensembles and put them side-by-side to compare. In some instances, she added layers, while in others she simply swapped belts. Take a look at her recurring outfits and tell us which wearing you like best.

Regarding the members of your staff that either put this together or decided to use it from another source: Fire them and the editor that approved it.

This is the most vapid, banal subject HP has produced in all the time I have been visiting your pages. Even the slightest hint of criticism for wearing the same article of clothing or the same accessory more than once is the height of poor judgement and bad taste.

So there!

And I'm sure if she wore something different every day people would complain about that too.

I read an article about Angela Merkel of Germany wearing her lilac evening gown for the third time, first time in 2007, and some so called "high society" commentators remarked that she should really look into getting something new although they did recognize the "trend" of recycling clothes now that first lady Michele Obama is doing it. They went on to comment how so unique her style of dressing up or down is and remarked on the beauty and grace she brought to the WH. I am always happy to read the foreign press giving great revues of our first lady. In other words, no one can pull recycling clothes off as classy as our very own Mrs. O

She looks beautiful in all of the pics. No I will not "rate" look 1 against look 2....the repeated dress. I'm starting to suspect that the style section is run by a bunch of teens.

Thanks for saying that, I would never rate any of these "face offs" or whatever. In my opinion there should not be fashion face offs, we all have our own style as long as we feel beautiful it should be all good.

no one ever seems to be happy with whatever she does. one day there are complaints about spending too much and the next because she wears the same outfit more than once. this is just plain stup*d.

I'm happy with the first lady just the way she is, and I think many are. it is the media that wants us to think otherwise, because her approval rating is high and an election is coming up. You should have seen the Murdoch owned media abroad and how they went "at it" with the trip to Spain, horrible.

The chatter ONE day is that she is spending TOO much money; the NEXT day the chatter is that she has "repeated" accessories, outfits, etc.!

She "exposed" her arms (oh, my!) and the flack was right there!

I think she has a GREAT sense of style, and she knows what looks good on her. Yet ANOTHER reason she has my vote!!

I'm pretty sure the vast majority of Americans were clothes more than once, which makes all of these news organizations lavishing Michelle Obama for doing it/hyperventilating over it seem out of touch and offensive.
02:52 AM on 08/11/2010
Offensive in what way? What new organization are you alluding to?
02:35 PM on 08/13/2010
Well, Huffpost is one, but others have said the same stuff. They may not be news organizations though. I find it offensive that they're acting like it's so uncharacteristic of someone in her position to wear something more than once, or even that they act like it's so commendable and down-to-earth, when it isn't.

As a first lady she needs more clothing, for events she has to go too. Being a first lady it is required.

Good recycled pictures of repeated clothes. I am glad there is nothing negative to be reported for today. Good on her to be herself and wear what she likes!
07:30 PM on 08/10/2010
What is the big deal of repeating outfits? Does everyone only wear something once? How do you know if Obama wears the same suit again?
01:05 AM on 08/11/2010
dp54, you are exactly right. If the First Lady worn a difference outfit each time she was seen in public, the naysayers would come out in droves. First, they would accuse her excessive spending of taxpayes money, which is not the case since she spends her own money. Second, they would accuse her (once again) of being a socialist who spends the taxpayers money while the economy tanks. Regardless of what she wears or does, someone will always be ready with a negative comment. Thank God Michelle is a strong woman who wears what she wants and cares less about what anyone says about her.
