So what else is new? Every Republican Governor turned down the Stimulus except the Governor from Fl , and then without fanfare nor knowledge of their constituents, asked for or accepted the money later. The Gov from La. even. presented a check to the state with his signature on it. How is that for deception.
06:36 PM on 08/12/2010
I've read that some of those checks were coming to Louisiana regardless of the stimulus, other money was either accepted or turned down by the governor depending on the strings attached.
He's stated often enough that he looked at each case and decided to accept some and turned down others.

After porkulus was a done deal, the governor needed to do what's best for the people he represents, after all some of that money is coming out of their pockets too.

Please stop seeing the world as a child might, one side all bad, the other all good.
07:48 PM on 08/12/2010
I'm glad he stated he looked at each case. I'm sure ihe didn't say that to prevernt embarrassment from being outed that he accepted the money after saying he wouldn't. I'm glad there are strings attached when giving out this kind of money , unlike GWB's Tarp money which was shelled out and no one was allowed to ask who it went to, how much, or for what resason. Did you like that better? I don't see the world as a child sees it, I see it the way it really is and what the Republican Party has done to and continues to do to this country. Prettty bad when they have to go back to pushing Reagans tired "trickle down economics"

I think HuffPost needs a Hypocrisy Section.
05:04 PM on 08/12/2010
This whole article is ridiculous. The spin is transparent, as the writer states 16 out of 65 companies there took stimulus funds. Isn't it at least as important that 49 out of 65 didn't?

And what do liberals see as the moral of the story - Republicans bad, Democrats good.

Its so predictable yet one instinctively knows that this sort of mindset will eventually implode and I think that's part of their frustration.

Yet one instinctively knows that when someone uses the term porkulus, they have no desire for facts. I think that's part of their frustration.
05:28 PM on 08/12/2010
See, you do know what porkulus is! Didn't you pretend earlier you didn't?

I surmise that your inability to decipher the article in its entirety is what is ridiculous.
06:59 PM on 08/12/2010
Surmise all you want, but this article shows that porkulus didn't create the vast majority of those jobs.

But hey don't let facts get in the way of your Pence bashing.

So let me get this straight. Pence had nothing to do with the passage of the bill and he did not direct who the money went to. He helped host a job fair which had some employers who may have received stimulus money, though most did not. The employers have employment opportunities in the district he represents, which is another thing he can't control. The article does not say he even picked which employers to attend, because he did not.

And somehow this is hypocrisy? Does the writer even know the definition of "hypocrisy"?

Does that mean if a Dem who supported the passage of this bill is a hypocrite if they host a job fair and a company who did not take stimulus money, hires an employee?

I am really sorry...I don't mean to be rude...but I don't even get what you are saying. I took from the article that he taking credit for the job fair. That he didn't support the bill but some of the companies that had booths at the fair did benefit from the package. Did I miss something?
03:10 PM on 08/12/2010
You just read the article as if the writer was going to honestly present the facts in a fair and balanced fashion and thats where you got it wrong.

The article says Dems are trying to pain him as a hypocrite because he hosted a job fair with employers who are hiring. Some of them may be hiring some or all positions due to stimulus money they received. If he hosts a job fair and someone gets hired and let's say they were hired due to stimulus money, somehow they are asserting he is going to take credit for that, or that the hire was SOLELY due to stimulus money.

What I was saying is that his job fair was for employers in his area (who are people he can't control), and that he was simply trying to find people work. He had nothing to do with stimulus money or its allocation.

Pence is as pure as the aritificially enhanced color of his snow white hair. While you are defending Pence, please list any earmarks, or significant legislation that he has actually written and gotten passed to help the 6th District of Indiana, his state or the country. I won't be holding my breath in anticipation of an answer. Having a tan, playing golf regularly at the Congressional Golf Course with his mentor Dan Burton, and holding hands and singing Kumbaya at the Fellowship Foundation C-Street All Boys Club, does not qualify him for a leadership position at anything except the Meridian Hills Country Club.

You are arguing something that has nothing to do with what we are talking about. However, to appease you, he co-sponsored HR 4141 which assists with federal disaster funds, HR 4981 which discusses tax exemptions, HR 737 which helps consolidate and eliminate waste on funds distributed to States, including his, HR 900 (I believe) which addresses base acreage farming, which is big in his State.

Now, to get back to the original point, his job fair has nothing to do with stimulus money he cannot control. Now, if he voted against the stimulus money, then took a stimulus check and handed it to business 1, 2, and 3, then asked them to hire, then took credit, it would make sense.

Yet again another politician fudging the truth. I saw this dude on Meet the Press this week. This guy could not give a straight answer if his life depended on it. The RNC keep saying this is wrong and that is wrong and we need tax cuts and we need to cut the budget. But look to see if even one of them will give you an example of a budget cut they support. They continue to say..well we should look at this or that. But they won't be specific. Why because they know they will be kissing their own butts goodbye if the talk about anything. I use to work for a company that told you that if you have a problem before you bring it up you should have some solutions. The RNC seem to think, well if we bring up the problems that is enough. And unfortunately some Americans buy that perspective. I for one don't. You think this is or that is wrong then tell us how you would fix it. It is easy to point fingers but you guys don't have a clue about how to correct anything. That may be why you don't have a say in either of the houses, you are clueless.

01:59 PM on 08/12/2010
Most of the companies at that job fair did not take porkulus money, therefore porkulus did not create all those jobs, and this is a transparent, lame attempt to smear Republicans because liberal policies are failing spectacularly as we speak.

What the heck, you are really reaching here. Its obvious the man has been totally taken out of context.

You cannot deal with the fact that Republican's voted against porkulus, and they have been shown to be correct, as unemployment has not been controlled and Democrats don't want to "brag" about this "accomplishment".
