Let's see... I wonder why... Maybe because they have a million models that range from free to the price of the iPhone and are available on every carrier...

If it was one model vs. one model on one carrier vs. one carrier than it would be a victory.... However Droid is winning due to market saturation.

Give me a break. I am left handed too and have zero issues. You have to go out of your way to hold the phone in a way that will affect the antenna. Even if you did you have to hold it there for a minute... It is a non issue and has never affected me during normal use.

New Android Malware

Google's Android operating system, which runs on a variety of different mobile phones, seems to have been hit by its first Trojan virus
http://news.yahoo.com/s/pcworld/20100811/tc_pcworld/newandroidmalwaretextspremiumratenumbers

The iPhone has been out for over 3 years and has yet to be compromised with a virus/malware.

The difference being that all of the vulnerabilities that you listed for the iPhone were proof-of-concept only, and were patched before any iPhones could be compromised. This new Android trojan, by contrast, was discovered in the wild, having already infected numerous Android devices in Russia.

Yeah, and it's not like you can Jailbreak the iPhone from a website or anything. I mean its totally rock solid.

www.jailbreakme.com

Warning: Visiting this site may cause you to become the owner of your iOS device and may cause you to have to use your own personal judgement when operating it.

I have waited long enough for the I-phone to be available on the Verizon network. I probably would have went with the I-phone but I am tired of waiting. I went with the Droid and it has everything and more that I need. It's very easy to use. If someone at Apple is reading this, your company is losing business daily by it's restrictive covenant with ATT. If you would have marketed it to all networks initially, your I-phone sales would have been much higher.

Good point. If they're going to compare every device with android OS to Apple, they should include the iPad and iPod Touch.

"Units' Shipped" . . . and the actual sales figures?
12:41 PM on 08/13/2010
well stores don't usually hold 1,000 phones....they carry what they can sell. So units shipped is pretty close to the real sales number. Either way, Android has beaten the iphone

Not true... Did you see the pictures of store rooms filled with Palm Pre's? They HOPE to not have more than they need but it doesn't equal out into sales numbers.
01:21 PM on 08/13/2010
Units shipped is the sales figure that Apple typically provides, so it's good enough.

What surprised me was the Linux market share. I have been looking for a decent Linux phone but have yet to find one. Linux got three times the amount of phones I would have thought.

The Nokia N900 is the only phone I can think of offhand that actually runs a standard Linux OS.

I have used the Evo and the iPhone... I can't imagine owning anything other than the iPhone. Its better in almost every way. Also recently jailbroke it and it got even better.

It's a perfect storm against Apple right now and it's their own fault as usual. First of Android is free and open source, that alone makes it hard to contend with. Second the hardware in the new iPhone is about to be old news in the Android world. Dual core processors that are 1.5 ghz are already being made. Samsung's galaxy class phones have faster processors and a six axis controller. Motorola and HTC with HDMI ports right on the phone. Android tablets for half the price of Ipads. Google has taken voice to a whole new level with Froyo. And then you have antennagate which has tarnished the reputation of Apple. So in the end you get more, faster and cheaper overall with Android. I just don't see how Apple can pull out of this.

You can't compare the two when one platform is CONSTANTLY having a new phone released. It devalues the phones immediately and means that no matter when you buy and Android it is immediately knocked down as the best available.

iPhones hold their value and compete with the best for most of its life cycle.

You claim Androids have no long term value when iWhatevers have no replaceable batteries expandable storage and are frequently denied upgrades?

Apple is the absoute king of planned obsolescence.

Do you know that before the ihone had video recording it was added in by independent devs? Yes, very talented developers worked hard to add video recording to the earlier iPhones and were promptly stamped out of the App store because Apple planned to offer that feature in a later phone.

Just like how next spring when the iPad4g comes out you will see a front facing cam. A new technology that was just recently invented and couldn't be added onto the original iPad in time, so sorry.
04:23 AM on 08/15/2010
I don't know if you're a troll or just a very ill informed person -- either way my head hurts after reading this comment. "antennagate that has tarnished the reputation of Apple." and yet Apple continues to sell just as many devices, very few people have returned the iPhone, and you can bet your last dollar that when the iPhone hits Verizon there wont be anything close. Where exactly are these Android, Web OS, Windows Tablets? the iPad will have nearly an entire year up on the competition before any of them hit the market -- oh and the few tablets that have been put out absolutely suck (just read the reviews) The iPad is a success by any standards -- its sold well, priced reasonable, and was reviewed highly.

Most Android devices are terrible; a lot of companies (mostly Motorola and HTC) want to slap on their own custom UI on top of Google's stock OS -- which all but cripples the phone and makes for a very frustrating experience that is bogged down with lag and confusion. As far as "six axis controller" and "faster processors" on Samsung phones I honestly have no clue what you're talking about but I assume you mean a gyroscope (which the iPhone has) and I'm sure the iPhone's A4 chip is on par with what Samsung is putting out currently.

"I'm sure the iPhone's A4 chip is on par with what Samsung is putting out currently."

Because Samsung makes that chip for Apple.

Apple also requested the SAMOLED screen featured on all Galaxy S phones but Samsung refused to allow anyone else to use the technology for another 3 years. Which at that point you will see it on the iPhone.

Samsung makes the chip in the Iphone 4, LG makes the display and the six axis controller is in the Samsung Galaxy, iPhone 4, Sony playstation 3 remote and I think the Wii controller. It allows the device to detect movement in all directions. You are the one who isn't informed.
