Maxine Waters' Grandson Is Her Chief Of Staff

Mikael Moore

Los Angeles Times:

Many people who encounter Mikael Moore, the chief of staff for Rep. Maxine Waters, see a typical Capitol Hill aide: a young, serious, BlackBerry-toting workaholic in a business suit with an intense belief in the importance of his work.

If they know he is also Waters' grandson, making him a rarity in Congress, it is not because he talks about it much, if at all.

I saw this in the original report days ago. It's nepotism, and so what? I don't see that it should disqualify him, unless they were just mailing a check to a no-show. But all reports are that he was acting adequately in that capacity, though one could argue that he in the end has failed to insulate her from the appearance of impropriety.

I'd claim that this isn't exactly up to getting a job  Read More...

hmmm . . . an educated and well qualified "family member" is put on staff . . . yet, not a peep when "'n 2002, Cheney was appointed to the position of Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs, a pre-existing vacant post with an "economic portfolio," which is a mandate to promote investment in the region" . . . . a "job" she was not trained, educated or prepared to take.

Time to resign Maxine, so that you can take your ill gotten gains with you.

Waters is corrupting two generations below her. This is a sad thing.

Bush and Cheney corrupt the entire world, and now we are trying to clean up the mess. That's sad.

Yawns ! Blah...Blah.........Blah !

she's done nothing except hold a spot that some behind-the-scenes greedy liberal thinks would be easy to capture for themselves if they can erode enough of her support.
07:20 PM on 08/13/2010
Ummm, isn't this how most politicians employ their staff? By using family members first? While I believe it's part of the problem, she's not exactly doing something that everybody else isn't doing.....

So, Maxine has an educated grand child working on her behalf in her office....why is this news? Good for him....
08:50 PM on 08/13/2010
It's news coming from corporate media, as they do the bidding of their corporate masters. Soft smear is what some call it. Makes better copy than reporting the latest Boehner claim to his base.

it's funny when dems get in trouble HP, which one would think look to defend them, brings out all the dirt.

now getting grandsonny boy is not a big deal especially if he is qualified but since she is not qualified for her position one would think he is not either.

stay off the booze, dude.
04:38 PM on 08/13/2010
Obviously she's qualified since she's been there since 1990. She must have done something right for the voter's of CA to keep electing her.
08:33 PM on 08/13/2010
Or maybe her constituents are not all that bright, and simply look for the "D" before they mark their ballot.
03:54 PM on 08/13/2010
Why is this a story? Did she break the law or some rule having her grandson as Chief of Staff?

I am on Maxine's side and these small potatoes ethics violations will not get her kicked out of Congress, but there is a problem with her ethics. Perhaps if she had a chief of staff who was more experienced, he might have alerted her that she was going out onto thin ice....? Just saying.
