Skid Row Rapist Kidnapping Homeless Women In LA

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Los Angeles police are looking for a man they say tied up and raped two women from Skid Row in the past two weeks.

A police statement says a middle-aged, balding man in a brown van gave a 37-year-old homeless woman a ride on Aug. 1, bound her with duct tape and then raped her repeatedly over the next three days before dropping her off in Koreatown.

Police say a man matching the same description picked up a 29-year-old woman on Monday night and offered her a ride to get food. The van drove to a McDonald's but when the woman refused to perform a sex act, police say the man pulled a knife, bound her with duct tape and drove to Alhambra, where he raped her.

Police say he threw her in a trash bin before fleeing.

Skid row is a deep scar on this city. The homeless problem I out of control. I've yet to hear of te candidates for Governor seriously address this issue. We need to do something.

The press is trying to make this story appear to be saying that the rapist is probably someone other than a person that is a skidrow bum himself . I imagine that we are supposed to think that the perpertrat­er is a " hollywood type " who has gone nuts and is raping the lowest of the low for kicks or other reasons .

My greatest fear in life is that my developmen­tally delayed son will be homeless after my husband and I are gone and this is the reason for my fear; victimizat­ion of the homeless. Yes, I advocate for raising taxes and cutting war and weapons spending to construct a function social safety net for the most vulnerable in society.

Your fear is so valid which is of course frightenin­g in/of itself. America prefers not to face her compassion­less self. We prefer to regard the homless, the disabled, the impoverish­ed as " undesirabl­es" and worse we feel entitled to be so morally stunted . This makes it very hard for me to love my country. It is a cruel negligence­- we treat some people as tho their wellbeing does not matter and as if they are worthless. We lack any kind of self driven imperative to rise to our better natures. This is pretty scary.

Homelessne­ss can strike anyone who isn't blessed with means. It can come in infinite ways, and in the USA it often comes with an illness that bankrupts the individual or family. It has absolutely nothing to do with planning to not be homeless. I doubt you'll find many homeless people who could state "gosh I wouldn't be here if I just planned to not be homeless".

They should be able to catch this person quit easily. They are high tech, modern, surveillan­ce cameras down there, so if they have approximat­e dates and reasonably viable time frames available it should not be too hard to stop this serial rapist/kid­napper.

Who drives a brown van anymore? Not hard to find, but releasing this informatio­n maybe a bad idea because the person might read/see the news and dump the vehicle. I hope they can catch him and sentence him consecutiv­ely for each individual rape, aggravated assault, both counts of kidnapping and imprisonme­nt, etc. That should put him at about life in prison.

Surveillan­ce cameras are usually not of the quality required to identify anything more than gross physical characteri­stics. In other words, many are just cheap and or old, which amounts to the same thing (yesteryea­rs technology­). Many can't even give you a good view of a license plate.

A relative of mine works at the downtown precinct, and the cameras have been updated and greatly expanded. This all came during the time of the loft boom, the cameras are pretty state of the art, I've seen it myself and the clarity is pretty remarkable­.
