Think Progress:

Reacting to President Obama's forceful defense of Muslims' rights to build a new Islamic community center near Ground Zero, Rep. Peter King (R-NY) -- who believes there are "too many mosques in this country" -- said, "It is insensitive and uncaring for the Muslim community to build a mosque in the shadow of ground zero." King's statement underscores one of the least understood facts of the new project: there is already a mosque near Ground Zero.

Ok, the president stated something that every high school kid should know....that they have the right to build a mosque if they would like to, as long as it follows the laws. What a smart president we have!

That's never been the issue though. The issue has been whether or not it is appropriate to put one there and the guy who is in charge of it.

Peter King thinks there's too many mosques in the US? What, there's a limit on the number of houses of worship now? Does he hold this view for churches, synagogues, and temples?
How far can people like Peter King go before people say enough to religious intolerance, especially from elected officials.

Do you also defend the State Department sending taxpayers money overseas for building a mosque? What about separation of church and state?

What about the Greek Orthodox church that, for years since being destroyed in the twin towers collapse, have been trying to get permission to rebuild?
Why hasn't the president taken up for that church? What would happen if the president took up for a christian church?

What about christian churches that have been removed in an eminent domain dispute?

Christian churches, many times, have been denied to build because of federal or state laws, or local zoning laws. Churches do not have the constitutional right to build anywhere they want; i.e. unless they are anti-christian churches.

But the owners of the community center in question have the right to build there. It is not a Mosque, it is a community center. There will be a place for worship inside the community center. The community center will also have restrooms inside but I don't hear anyone complaining about building a toilet on ground zero ground.

Your post reads like conspiracy theory.

If those churches are in violation of zoning laws, do you think those same zoning laws wouldn't apply to a synagogue or a mosque?

If you answered "Yes", then I would like you to show that would be the case, and when you can't, refer to my first sentence.

If you answered "No", then I have to ask, what's the point of talking about zoning law violations when this community center is clearly not in any violation?

These supporters of rich republicans can play to their base by standing up for "religious freedom," and it makes it look like they are fair and balanced and then in their next breath, they will be back to calling the president a socialist, fascist, communist, Hitlerian, Stalinistic dictator.

jerry...........do you honestly believe that?........

i have no interest in defending nbc,but defending FNC as presenting 'all perspectives" is thoroughly absurd............

FNC consistently brings on cons. commentators/pols to speak on various issues w/out anyone to push back on their statements......yet,any time a D/Liberal appears, they are opposed by a cons. or a R pol.........

I'm sorry, but you sound damn foolish to suggest that FNC is operating in a "fair and balanced" way..........

I think they have every right to put the Mosque there. I think they should be sensative about it, and move it if possible, but if they don't want to that is there right.

President Obama didn't take any stand !!!!!!!!!!!! He just repeated the Constitution !!!!!!!!!!

You're right. It is the sworn duty of every U.S. president to uphold the U.S. Constitution, of which freedom of religion is a strong component.

Absolutely love King's remarks about building a mosque in the shadow of ground zero.

What shadow? And tell me again, why haven't we rebuilt the towers yet?

I'm sure there's a good reason they would do that. Oh YEAH, Fox News second largest investor and share-holder, the Saudi Royal Family, is also the largest supporter and proliferator of radical Wahhabist Islam.
10:19 AM on 08/16/2010
Actually Fox News probably has more negative coverage of Arabs and Muslims than any other network.

but you will never hear them use the word 'Wahhabism' because it is the state religion of Saudi Arabia, and the religion of Bin Laden and Al Qaeda, and basically the same as what the Taliban practice. What FOX does is feed the hatred that Wahhabism builds off of. It allows them to say 'LOOK, AMERICA HATES ALL MUSLIMS, SO WE SHOULD HATE THEM BACK" . FOX news is there to make their point for them. That's why the Saudi's are so invested in News Corp, is it plays into their political fortunes by making them look strong. Certainly none of the people in SA are aware of the Saudi Royal family's complicity in stoking hatred for Muslims through their proxy FOX news. SA, the UAE, and Pakistan are the only 3 countries to diplomatically recognize the Taliban.

First of all, fox news is an oxymoron. Secondly, waiting to make the statements shows that they were planned statements. Thirdly, check out the comments from the Republican leadership.

There's this one token gop opinion columnist at the Boston Globe I perpetually have to smack down. The guy was all for hitting Iraq, really has it in for Islam...and is in full favor of the community center.

No you don't. Just keep watching. They will continue their biased "reporting" that they get paid to do by the billionaires. Every once in awhile, they will make themselves look legitimate and they did that in this case by playing to their base with the religious freedom idea. Also if you read above, since some of the billionaires are Muslim oil people, they have to walk a fine line.

Did your television just blow a fuse like mine did?

Time to go bang it in the back and see if I can get it to come back on.
