PHOTOS: Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero Keeps It Cool

First Posted: 08/14/10 09:41 AM ET   Updated: 05/25/11 06:20 PM ET

There must be something in the agua in Spain to make all of their politicians so stylish. We know you love Princess Letizia, we recently introduced you to Prince Felipe, and now we'd like you to meet Spanish Prime Minister José Luis Rodriguez Zapatero, wife of stylista Sonsoles Espinosa. Zapatero keeps it cool, sticking to a darker, often monochromatic, color palette (much like his wife and his daughters) offset by geometric-print ties. Check out some of Zapatero's best looks and tell us which ones are especially fantastic.

I can see some rigtwingers have many problemwith Zapatero´s government...but even with global crisis...Spain is the 7th economy in the world, the second most turistic country, the secnd best health care in the world, the country with more kilometers of railways for high speed trains in the world, world leader in renewable energies and he had also encreased gay rights, he increased the minimun salary, the abortion rights and he takeSpainout of the Iraq war...ad the mot important thing he had been chosen twice for the Spanish people to be their president, so he must be respected for that, because that is democracy!!!!

Are your serious. Spain is suffering under the utter failure of democracy.

Those achievements are not because of Zapatero, they are in spite of him. Zapatero is popular with some people in Spain, in the same way that Sarah Palin is popular with a lot of people in the U.S.
Usually people that watch a lot of television.

Your comment shows your not really intelligent...

So leftwingers they don´t watch television..they just are all intellectuals like u!

Sarah Pallin is more smilar to Esperanza Aguirre than Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero...

And of course Spanish merits had nothing to do with Zapatero, but Global finantial crisis are Zapatero´s fault...you ar quite ridiculous...

style,,,,,,,,,,you're kidding me. his tie/shirt combos remind of what an understaker might wear. his outfits look like what my dad used to wear, buy a shirt and get a coordinating tie free. i worked in fashion for 10 yrs. and women used to tell me how they'd number their husbands shirts and ties, to make sure everything coordinated.

we don´t have 49 million people under poberty level like in the US...but we do have public health care, university and school for free, gay marriage, and many other advances of the socialism...
04:51 PM on 08/14/2010
Dear Barbie,
I don't think you will have those for much longer.....there is no cash to sustain these socialist entitlements. Read my posting to Ben below.

The present government is socialist in name basically. This is a capitalist system with some state intervention, like all the rest of Europe.
Its not like there is a portrait of Stalin hanging in every government office, and there are bread lines.

I live in Spain and say that Zapatero is the biggest Big Dummy in the history of mankind
04:05 PM on 08/14/2010
So how is the situation in Spain , Ben?Employment and all that?Is it still at 20%?
04:34 PM on 08/14/2010
The situation is quite bad.
However, the overall objectives of Spain as a society are shared by both the Socialist and the center-right party (PP) : industrial policy, a diversified economy, progressive taxation, public health care and retirement, a well-regulated financial system, etc. No one across thye political spectrum disagrees with these objectives, which is a great thing.
What we need is a competent government to achieve and mantain these goals, and Zapatero definitely is no good - he is just plain incompetent and ineffective.
The problem in Spain is that the regional governments blackmail the central government in exchange for their votes, when passing legislation in Congress. The previous prime minister (Aznar) was strong and would not be intimidated, but Zapatero is weak and can be bullied around by everyone
04:16 PM on 08/14/2010
How so? I'm not being snarky, but why do you say that?
03:47 PM on 08/14/2010
I don't see a resemblance with Rowan Atkinson at all.Sapatero rather reminds me of Sarcozy.....he looks very Mediterranean with the exception of the blue eyes....he must have some weird Galic-Saxon genes cocktail in his blood.
