Ed Rollins, GOP Strategist, Calls Michael Steele 'A Disaster' (VIDEO)

The Huffington Post   First Posted: 08/16/10 12:39 PM ET Updated: 05/25/11 06:20 PM ET

GOP strategist Ed Rollins says Michael Steele has "failed miserably" in his responsibilities as chairman of the Republican National Committee.

Rollins took the shot at the Republican leader, who has been no stranger to controversy, on CBS' "Face the Nation" over the weekend.

"Obviously he's been a disaster," explained Rollins to host Bob Schieffer. "Michael Steele has failed miserably in the things you're supposed to do -- raise money and basically go out and articulate the message."

Despite the criticism, Rollins -- who directed Ronald Reagan's 1984 presidential campaign and once served as Chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee -- signaled he's not concerned about Steele hurting Republican chances at the polls come November.

"In 11 weeks from now, what he says or does in the next 11 weeks is not going to matter," said Rollins. "What's going to matter is Ed Gillespie, Haley Barbour, others who've picked up the mantle and are raising the resources that we need."

Via ThinkProgress comes video of the harsh remarks from Rollins.

The Left’s OVERDUE NEEDED POLITICAL STRATEGY:
As the right has successfully dismissed Obama’s remarks that contribute the economic woes to the Bush’s policy and what Obama inherited by saying “there he goes again blaming Bush,” the left must DO the same with the constant daily Obama bashing, which is relentless. This strategy will work. All left activist should and must begin to constantly repeat like a persistent drumbeat, “oh there they go again, blaming everything on Obama,” or “oh, there they go again, constantly criticizing Obama.”
The right has been too successful with their lock-step message. By saying the above quotes over and over again will eventually, over time, dismiss the nonsense, malicious, and untruthful agenda from the right. Please pass this message to everyone, so that we can somewhat balance out the political arena.
Thank you,
DBR

It's really sad that Ed Rollins doesn't understand that the GOP he once supported no longer exists. His use of the word 'we' is particularly pathetic.

A number of the people that post here voted for Obama, so your argument fails there. The ones that voted for Obama love Michael Steele. The people that have a problem with Michael Steele have a problem with blacks in power, all the way to the top.

In other words, the man we picked to throw stones at Obama, is now being stoned by party members. I quess he didn't work out as well as they thought, so they curtailed monies away from him and allows it to flow through the white hands of Barbour, and Gillespie. Steele, should be smacked for allowing himself to be used, but he's such a prositute for the right, he doesn't know the diffrence !

I'm more inclined to believe in science, but if I were to consider belief in a deity, it would be to the credit of Michael and Sharron. These two individuals were gifts to democrats. It's as if Michael was the karma for republicans appointing Clarence.

Their racism is evident in the fact that they refuse to fire this ridiculous guy. Just shows that he is nothing but a symbol to them.

LOL @ accusing the GOP of having a symbol. Yet it was a Republican President who nominated the first black Secretary of State. I guess that was just a symbol as well?

No misterwolfy, Republicans are loyal. Loyal to each other and only the most extreme of mistakes like breaking ethics would cost Michael Steele his job. This would be true with a white chairman as well.

"Breaking ethics" like sleeping with hookers and allowing your staff to abuse women? Seems to have kept Vitter on the payroll.

This man is a token and anyone can tell that his incompetence - from blaming Afghanistan on Obama to saying that women should have the right to choose - is not being greeted with loyalty, but consistent calls for his resignation. Can't you even pay attention to the very story you're commenting on?

Oh and yes, Condeleeza Rice was more symbol than international progress, unless you can point to one single accomplishment she had.

You picked him.
You have some warped strategy that somehow lead you to believe that Steele was your President Obama, simply because he had melatonin. Just like some GOPer apparently thought Palin equaled Secy Hillary Clinton simply because they had the same biological makeup. (Can't put that genie back in the bottle can you?) Just get some glad handed GOPer to offer Steele a "consultant deal" that he can parachute his way out with. He'll go. #p2

Republicans just lack true talent right now.
Unfortunately their ideology is currently so narrow that true intellectuals are either turned off or booted out.
