Wasn't there talk a few years back about Apple getting into the in-dash navigation unit business? Seems to me like a 7" screen would be just about right, and Apple would be the best company to simplify the interface and make it a pleasant experience to use.

That product would be distinct enough to appeal to owners of other Apple iOS devices. The current offerings for navigation systems are clunky and slow, lacking the elegant and efficient aesthetic that only Apple can pioneer.

There are at least a dozen, possibly twice that amount, of 7" tablets already out there selling in the $100-150 range currently running Android. A number are listed on Amazon, for example. They do not rival the iPad yet, as their performance is not up to speed by various accounts. But they prove that the technology can be produced relatively inexpensively. In time -- and I do not think this will amount to too much time -- the non-Apple tablets, along with Android's 3.0 release targeted for February, will give the iPad competition. When people realize that reliable devices can be bought at a fraction of the cost of Apple's offerings, the drooling over Apple will diminish.

Hitchhiker: You heard of this thing, the 8-Minute Abs?
Ted: Yeah, sure, 8-Minute Abs. Yeah, the excercise video.
Hitchhiker: Yeah, this is going to blow that right out of the water. Listen to this: 7... Minute... Abs.
Ted: Right. Yes. OK, all right. I see where you're going.
Hitchhiker: Think about it. You walk into a video store, you see 8-Minute Abs sittin' there, there's 7-Minute Abs right beside it. Which one are you gonna pick, man?
Ted: I would go for the 7.
Hitchhiker: Bingo, man, bingo. 7-Minute Abs. And we guarantee just as good a workout as the 8-minute folk.
Ted: You guarantee it? That's - how do you do that?

Hitchhiker: If you're not happy with the first 7 minutes, we're gonna send you the extra minute free. You see? That's it. That's our motto. That's where we're comin' from. That's from "A" to "B".
Ted: That's right. That's - that's good. That's good. Unless, of course, somebody comes up with 6-Minute Abs. Then you're in trouble, huh?
[Hitchhiker convulses]
Hitchhiker: No! No, no, not 6! I said 7. Nobody's comin' up with 6. Who works out in 6 minutes? You won't even get your heart goin, not even a mouse on a wheel.
Ted: That - good point.
Hitchhiker: 7's the key number here. Think about it. 7-Elevens. 7 dwarves. 7, man, that's the number. 7 chipmunks twirlin' on a branch, eatin' lots of sunflowers on my uncle's ranch. You know that old children's tale from the sea. It's like you're dreamin' about Gorgonzola cheese when it's clearly Brie time, baby. Step into my office.
Ted: Why?
Hitchhiker: 'Cause you're' fired!

7" screen? Does that make it a half-pad?

This is going in the wrong direction. The screen is small ENOUGH!

In the case of the iPad a little bigger is better. Exactly 3 inches diagonal, to be matter of fact.

I agree. I like my iPad fine, but if anything, I'd want it bigger not smaller. If I wanted it smaller, I'd get an iPhone.

I wouldn't mind one a tad wider for easier typing (& widescreen video), but as it is now its a bit heavy to use as an e-reader.

Prediction,; the new iPad will have a camera and facetime software. That feature alone will have all the people who bought the iPad standing in line again to buy this one.

But ask yourself, why didn't the original iPad have a camera and personal videoconferencing? The additional parts cost would have been miniscule. The reason of course is to sell the same bunch of loyalists two tablet computers in a year.

Then twelve months later, the iPad with a camera AND A BIG SCREEN! See your family and friends in big screen detail! Impress member of the opposite sex with the size of your tablet! Time to get in line again!

I would never want to hold up an iPad to take a photo. Just like I wouldn't lug it around just to listen to music. For me, it's an ideal reader/word processor -- a product I've been waiting for forever!

I thought about getting the nano for photos, but it has no wi-fi, so you can't send the photos easily.

The camera rumor that excites me is the iPod touch camera rumor. If that thing had a camera, I'd get it in a second. I'm resisting the iPhone because of the expensive monthly plan.

The thing that will sell the camera in the new iPad isn't using it to take pictures, it is to use it as a videophone. The tablet may not really be suited to many things, but it is just about ideal for personal video calls.

I love apple products and have designed a great application in case you leave your Apple product.

It is called Mr. zip.

If you leave your computer or phone anywhere and someone picks it up you will be alerted and then click on the feature HELLP THERE and the person will get 600 volts of electricity through there body.

I asked apple to install this great product but they think i have something loose upstairs what do all of you think.

Phones and devices will eventually be equipped with a remote kill switch. This is inevitable, considering that the concerns for enterprise use of the mobile platform will necessitate it.

It will shut down access to the phone. End of story.

As if they arent already.

So know they'll have the 9-inch one, the 7-inch one and the iphone, and don't forget an actual phone to make calls. Apple is rolling in the idiots dough.

P.S. This is why you never buy 1st gen and with apple, I suggest never buying until after three generations.
05:58 PM on 08/17/2010
No, you're thinking of the various Windows OS failures. Never buy a Microsoft product until it's at least two years old and they've released their dozen or so patches to make it usable.
06:01 PM on 08/17/2010
No, my windows 7 is perfect. I'm referring to the buy something from apple and then 6 months later they come out with a new one. I'd like to keep my computers more than 6 months , so buying something that's meant to be replaced so soon is useless.
