"Castle Crag" In Eagle Rock: Rent This Victorian Farmhouse

First Posted: 08/17/10 08:49 PM ET   Updated: 05/25/11 06:25 PM ET

Via Curbed LA: This restored Victorian farmhouse is a historical gem. Hat tip to Curbed LA for linking to the Historic-Cultural Monument Application for the residence, which has pictures of the gorgeous wrap-around porch and the turret, as well as some spooky black and white photos of the house and its residents in the early 1900s. The home is three stories, has 5 bedrooms and two-and-a-half baths and is almost 2,700 square feet. The original listing gushes that the house, nicknamed "Castle Crag," has "incredible jaw-dropping character" and suggests the home for people with kids, roommates, or single folk who like to entertain. Available for rent at $4,250/month.

Photos via the original listing and the Historic-Cultural Monument Application.

It's a perfectly nice little city, but people who can afford to spend $51,000 a year on rent don't live in Eagle Rock.

I'm happy to see restoration for such a place, but you could rent a house just like this in the Northeast somewhere for about $700.00 a month.

Oh is that all? I make a very good living and am not even close to affording this. LA is out of control. We need another drop in real estate prices to have any sort of long-term sustainability and avoid more of this "have" and "have-not" economy.

There were quite a few incredible and historical homes sans the makeovers in WI. I was fortunate enough to spend 5 years there for university and really enjoyed the architecture around Madison, Janesville, Whitewater, Spring Green - where Taliesin East was located by Frank Lloyd Wright.

Spooky photos? Really? Apparently whoever wrote this has never looked at old photographs before.

Aww, I remember renting a place like that in Cambridge MA in the late 60s for $150 a month.

I'm betting it was a lot like the 60s scene in every college town. (Read: Tales of the City.) A house is almost one of the characters in memories from those times.

Hi Tulka!

Yep, very much so.

When I moved in the kitchen walls had smashed raw eggs, including the shells, on the walls, and sprayed over with Day-Glo paint. Supposedly Van Morrison had lived there a few years before.

Whether those were his eggs, we never knew.

Would that be LA as in Louisiana or LA as in Los Angeles?

When will the promise of the computer age come true? When will smart people with a lap-top be able to rent a house like this and work from home? I am pleased to inform you east coasters that the streets of fly-over country are full of charming streets and with houses like this one.

Why can't Huff Post be run from all over the country?

No place is the place for everyone. Conceded, there are ambitions only Los Angels can meet. (You should have seen it in the 80s.)

The point is, my dear, that the young people who edit Huff Post on the east coast are so poor from paying about the same amount in Manhattan for what would amount to a closet in this house.
