They Are Tracking Your Every Move
As you surf the web behavioral marketing companies are using technology to see where you go, what you like, and most importantly, what you might want to buy. http://www.newslook.com/videos/243357-they-are-tracking-your-every-move?autoplay=true

Quit it with the flat out fibs yudkib

The High Performance Computing and Communication Act of 1991 (commonly referred to as "The Gore Bill") was passed on December 9, 1991 and led to the National Information Infrastructure (NII) which Gore referred to as the "information superhighway."

Al Gore never ever claimed to have invented the internet.

It was just like yesterday when we had our first internet connection at the house. 9800bps dial modem was state of the art then, filling the screen 1/4 inch at a time.

Its still early days; the humans have "just switched on their computers"; would muse an advanced extraterrestrial. Smart phones will morph into pocket doctors, electronic wallets and pocket computers; ipads will morph into talking assistants; and then into robots. To think that the previous generation used paper for information and wooden phones for connecting up socially. Well at least we've passed the "soggy newsprint" stage. Ladies and Gentlemen; welcome to the birth of human civilization.

I love how they gloss over the fact that the Defense Department started it. What they don't mention is that the experiment is not over....and we are the guinea pigs.

DARPA is part of the DOD and yes this network was designed to meet specs of auto-routing of traffic around problem spots in the event of nuclear war so that communications would stay up. This history is no secret.

Remember when altavista was the #1 search engine?

What happened to Sir Timothy John "Tim" Berners-Lee (inventor of HTML) and the W3C at Cern? Good lord, those of us who were around using ARPANET in the 1970's can only conclude this is a very inaccurate and incomplete attempt at visualizing "the history of the Internet."

So many of the important milestones are missing, and proper credit not given.
02:13 PM on 08/21/2010
Remember the source, it's an online MBA site. My dad was on ARPANET since he was an Engineer in a University.

I envy you Sir (or Madam). I wish I have been a bit older at that time.
05:54 PM on 08/21/2010
Roger that. And I recognize that everyone's contribution to the Internet cannot be chronicled in such a short visual display. I was fortunate enough to play with and watch ARPANET's evolution during the early years in DOD. I'm 69 and so I envy all you younger guys and gals out there, as the best is obviously yet to come...barring the outcome of net neutrality.

When the early Arpanet was taken out of Universities and DOD and made available to the general public as the Internet, no one thought there would ever be any advertising. Look at it now. The creation of "cookies" by Compuserve actually created tons of petitions and even a commercial boycott. And look at it now. Google's Schmidt is suggesting he kids might have to change their names when they grow older to detach themselves from their early profiles.

When Berners Lee put the entire listing of all the url's for the then extaunt "world wide web" online at CERN I remember it was only about a 12kb download

Also played with BBS and early Usenet off base and was an early subscriber to Brand's "The Well" in Sausalito. Dedicated workstations feed by mainframe computers giving way to small amber or green monochrome IBM computers with an amazingly large 250MB hardrives.

Cheers to the younger generation who will really make the Internet free.

if you read the third sentence (not just skimming the info graphic for things you think should be on the info graphic you didn't make) you can see that MBA Online was the creator, so your complaints will fall to deaf ears here.
