WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange gives a seminar at the Swedish Trade Union Confederation headquarters in Stockholm, Sweden, Saturday Aug. 14, 2010. WikiLeaks will publish 15,000 documents from the Afghan war within weeks, Assange told reporters in Stockholm, saying "We proceed cautiously and safely with this material." although U.S. Pentagon says the information would be more damaging to security and risk more lives.(AP Photo / Bertil Ericson / SCANPIX)

Newsweek:

A U.S. lawyer representing the whistleblowing web site Wikileaks says U.S. government officials have been given codes and passwords granting them online access to official U.S. government documents that Wikileaks so far has not published.

Timothy Matusheski, a lawyer from Hattiesburg, Miss., who says he represents whistleblowers and has been in touch with both Wikileaks founder Julian Assange and at least one government official involved in investigations of Wikileaks, said Wikileaks had set up a "secure channel" through which authorized users could access the unpublished material. He said credentials for using this Web site had been forwarded to representatives of the U.S. government whom he did not identify. Pentagon spokesman Bryan Whitman did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

I'm not sure what we have a covert operations in this country for. We need to take down this guy's servers and help him disappear somewhere for questioning.

So now the Pentagon gets to redact what it considers inflammatory... so what is the point in the entire exercise? Why should we consider Wikileaks to be credible at all now?

So WikiLeaks makes a concession and allows the Pentagon into the loop.

WHat thats do they get? A Rape charge in Sweden that can't survive from 24 hours.

Go back to hard ball Julian, they just don't get it.

Files declassified in America have revealed covert public relations and lobbying activities of Israel in the U.S. The National Archive made the documents public following a Senate investigation. They suggest Israel has been trying to shape media coverage of issues it regards as important. You can download the files from the web-site of the Institute for Research on Middle Eastern policy. And we can cross to Washington now and talk to Grant F. Smith who is a director at that Institute.

You are absolutely correct. And the sad truth is that much of what WikiLeaks has is just documentation proving what we already know.

The problem is not the documents it is that the media willfully ignores these major violations of law and manipulation and therefore condones the acts. What the Pentagon is really afraid of is that a couple of the documents are so inflammatory that they just can not be ignored by the media.

I have a question, I was looking up the who owns the actual web service. It is situation in Sweden, therefore any classified information is not even being posted on an American website, it's being sent to a foreign country. I would think that this is treason isn't it? Perhaps Americans should think twice about posting anything on a foreign site, because it could bring alot of legal problems IMO.
11:45 PM on 08/21/2010
It is treason and his website should be destroyed. And, he should be arrested.

Can anyone post a good link to a site that sums up what the War Diaries leak has produced so far. I'm having some trouble with the military jargon.

Any good gotchas you know about?

I notice sometimes the stats don't match up with the actual description. As in KIA=0 deaths if it is an insurgent that was killed, insurgent being doublespeak for Afghani civilian.

Thanks in advance...

What's wrong with this picture? This traitor publishes thousands of classified documents and then his lawyers give the Pentagon authorization to get access to the Pentagons classified documents. How come they didn't get a subpeona, and turn everything over to the Justice Dept, as well as the Court that will be handling the court marshal of the soldier. I think we need to make an example of these people, we can't allow people to post just anything they think they can post.

You are not free to steal goods/information einstein.

You are not free to distribute stolen goods/information.

If you do this with classified information, you put yourself in serious jeapardy. This is not a game.

I hope this guy's 15 mins of fame has been worth it.

Would the MSM like to give us a body count since WIKILEAKS exposed the first batch of illegal NATO-US activity in the middle east. Then make an earnest effort to find out which ones are attributable to WIKILEAKS. Again remind us how many innocent Arabs are in secret US prisons around the world.

The tens of thousands of deaths are blood on the hands of US corporations, bankers and military contractors.

With the Internet as a great tool of transparency, why is there so much effort towards censorship of political opinions?
02:10 PM on 08/22/2010
I don't think anyone is too worried about this guy expressing his opinions.

If he disseminates illegally obtained classified material, then he should expect trouble.
05:21 PM on 08/21/2010
I'm confused. how can you be a whistle blower and then give the people your calling out a sneak peak
07:09 PM on 08/21/2010
Sneak peak is reviewing copies, not originals. Mitigation of war crimes is only "fair", don't you think? It's just a matter of cooperation.

The US engaged in arm twisting in an attempt to force censorship on WIKILEAKS.

By giving them advanced copies, the United States becomes a party to the leaks and become active participants in leaking top secret documents. You cannot complain about the act once you become an active participant in changing the nature of the documents releasing them in essence with your approval.

WIKILEAKS put them in a corner, in much the same way the U.S. is accustomed to always having the upper hand, it now has unclean hands.

Well, the video showed US pilots engaging a group of armed men in militia controlled area in close proximity to approaching US patrol. Pulitzer prize winning journalist who was there reported that there had been ongoing fighting in the area.

All the video did was reveal the horror and violence of war.

Wikileaks was deliberately misleading when it tried to say the US did not treat the civilians victims, when their own site published the hospital records that kids given extensive life saving care at US facilities.

This guy is an attention whore who relies on the fact that his groupie drones won't dig past the headlines.
