Iran Unveils Unmanned Bomber, Dubbed 'Ambassador Of Death' By Ahmadinejad

Iran Unmanned Bomber

TEHRAN, Iran — Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Sunday inaugurated the country's first domestically built unmanned bomber aircraft, calling it an "ambassador of death" to Iran's enemies.

The 4-meter-long drone aircraft can carry up to four cruise missiles and will have a range of 620 miles (1,000 kilometers), according to a state TV report – not far enough to reach archenemy Israel.

"The jet, as well as being an ambassador of death for the enemies of humanity, has a main message of peace and friendship," said Ahmadinejad at the inauguration ceremony, which fell on the country's national day for its defense industries.

The goal of the aircraft, named Karrar or striker, is to "keep the enemy paralyzed in its bases," he said, adding that the aircraft is for deterrence and defensive purposes.

The president championed the country's military self-sufficiency program, and said it will continue "until the enemies of humanity lose hope of ever attacking the Iranian nation."

Iran launched an arms development program during its 1980-88 war with Iraq to compensate for a U.S. weapons embargo and now produces its own tanks, armored personnel carries, missiles and even a fighter plane.

Iran frequently makes announcements about new advances in military technology that cannot be independently verified.

State TV later showed video footage of the plane taking off from a launching pad and reported that the craft traveled at speeds of 560 miles per hour (900 kilometers per hour) and could alternatively be armed with two 250-pound (113.4-kilogram) bombs or a 450-pound (204.12-kilogram) guided bomb.

Iran has been producing its own light, unmanned surveillance aircraft since the late 1980s.

The ceremony came a day after Iran began to fuel its first nuclear power reactor, with the help of Russia, amid international concerns over the possibility of a military dimension to its nuclear program.

Iran insists it is only interested in generating electricity.

Referring to Israel's occasional threats against Iran's nuclear facilities, Ahmadinejad called any attack unlikely, but he said if Israel did, the reaction would be overwhelming.

"The scope of Iran's reaction will include the entire the earth," said Ahmadinejad. "We also tell you – the West – that all options are on the table."

Ahmadinejad appeared to be consciously echoing the terminology used by the U.S. and Israel in their statements not ruling out a military option against Iran's nuclear facilities.

On Friday, Iran also test-fired a new liquid fuel surface-to-surface missile, the Qiam-1, with advanced guidance systems.

How many times before people realize that since Ahmadinejad does not speak the english language, none of the quotes attributed to him are ever really accurate.

Ambassador of death? now you guys know that doesn't even sound right

You can just imagine the big grin on Ahmadinejad's face when he named that thing.

I think that Ahmadinejad might have a little problem, seeing the phallic nature of his "Ambassador".... ;-)

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad seems to be an honorable man. The usual suspects are neocons. No honour.

Iran launched an arms development program during its 1980-88 war with Iraq to compensate for a U.S.weapons embargo and now produces its own tanks, armored personnel carriers, missiles and even a fighter plane. Iran has fought for independence for years. Thank you.

I once read a fascinating on-line post by a weapons physicist who talked about the capability of tactical low-yield nuclear weapons to actually penetrate 10 metres of reinforced concrete. His main point was that the warhead would be crushed on impact before it could penetrate to it's underground target at some hypothetical target like Natanz. Does anybody here remember that?

Why don't we drop you with a parachute down in the middle of Tehran so you can try it. Let's put John Bolton with you too. You two would be a perfect pair.

So Iran developed a near copy of the V1 buzzbomb the Germans developed in 1944?

Big Whoop.

A MUCH advanced V1 - Sure it looks similar and uses a jet engine, BUT ...

The design is very functional AND the guidance system is vastly superior to the non-existent V1 guidance system.

Aerodynamics actually pretty much limits how a missile of aircraft or UAV will look, so it is not all that meaningful that it LOOKS similar to a V1.

Given the excellent technical expertise of the Iranian engineers working under much less ideal conditions than US/Israeli engineers, this is a major accomplishment.

Iran has the goal of being completely self sufficient in all classes of weapons needed for their defense and they have demonstrated that they are capable of designing and manufacturing advanced weapons.

Sure they brag, but why shouldn't they when they are able to accomplish just as much as US/Israel engineers with a lot less resources.

Like Iran with its defense intensification, what other country that has the capability of doing the same--to protect itself--when there is an aggressive military that saps one quarter of its REALM tax money to function, including the largest office building in the world--the Pentagon.

In perspective, American tax payers fund the Department of Defense--liars, thieves and collectors--to pass along the money to their Godfathers in the COMPLEX that make the weapons, and other military business/services. Thus, one quarter of the U.S. economy depends on MILITARY CRIMES. It's an unfortunate American shame.

so, Iran is a victim? funny perspective. I know it is fun to hate the US and Israel but does that really mean that you MUST love Iran and its weapons and excuse whatever it does? Politics trumps humanity.

Do you dispute that "All options are on the table" is a direct threat to Iran. Both the US and Israel say the same thing, constantly threatening Iran. The US defense budget is 74 times the size of the Iranian defense budget. Also, Iran cannot import arms from other countries because of sanction. So, what do you want them to do? Be sitting ducks?

Not a victim yet....If you're talking about the U.S. military's actions around the globe, yes I hate it. Who made the decisions for these actions? Certainly not the voters, because they are kept in the dark through propaganda in foreign policies. The few who have the intellectuality to grasp what's going on politically both inside and outside the U.S. are not enough to make an impact on the government; that's what agents of the Godfathers at the CIA recognize.

BTW my wife is Persian. I love Persia. I'm not a Muslim.

Can Iran name anything w/o the word "Death" being in it. Here's video of the plane BTW:

Iran has been recognizing that the U.S. MILITARY IS A FOR-HIRE ENTITY that is functioned independently from the government. U.S. military philosophy: Pay up, we get the job done at any cost--MONEY & BLOOD. In other words, who cares who's paying for the cost of war, who cares who dies!

Reagan was a piker compared to Carter. He sold $12.2B of military equipment to the Shah. Luckily, most never made it to Iran after the revolution. The got the F-14/Phoenix system, Improved Hawk A-A missile systems. Luckily I think we stopped the FFG-7a, AWACS and KC-135s under contract.

Yes, but Carter never lied to Congress about it, nor did he prop up Nicaraguan Contras in order to make it happen.
