Bill Clinton celebrated his 64th birthday in the Hamptons this weekend, Page Six reports. The former president and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton threw a huge party at the home of Doug and Lily Band in Water Mill. On the guest list were Katie Couric, Paul McCartney, Jimmy Buffett, Matt Lauer, Lloyd Blankfein and Vera Wang, who, of course, dressed Chelsea for her wedding. The bash was catered by Jason Weiner of Almond restaurant in Bridgehampton.

Bill's actual birthday was August 19 and McCartney called him then to sing "When I'm Sixty-Four."

So what kinds of presents did Clinton get? He used Facebook Causes to ask for donations to support the things he stands for, such as reducing childhood obesity, tackling climate change, and encouraging economic opportunities through entrepreneurship. Clinton is the first public figure to raise funds through the site's birthday wish program.

A President who presided over eight continuous years of job growth (22 million jobs, count 'em), a booming economy, won two wars without an American casualty, turned a dictator over to the World Court leading the monster to commit suicide, demonstrated unerring compassion for poor and disabled Americans, and presided over a government that was respected the world over. Just imagine it! I read sometimes on the HP that Bill Clinton created our financial problems today. It is pure bunk, but people love to knock him. Face it, he left office with a surplus. If we had chosen that moment for health care, we could have afforded it. Of course some of our problems took root in the 90s. But, with a surplus and good management, these problems in 2008 would have been a blip on the screen. But, in the past 10 years, the tax cuts and wars rendered our economy unable to cope with even the slightest shock, and that continues today. I would take 33% of Bill Clinton for 110% of Barack Obama (the man in front of the mirror) and 120% of any Republican you can name!

Bill Clinton was a good President, after 8 years in office, but what did people think about him after two years in office? History says not much! But I don't think any President has ever had it as hard as Barack Obama. Expectations stupidly through the roof that he could snap his fingers and correct the dangerous course set by George Bush. So while I celebrate the accomplishments of Bill Clinton and hope he had a wonderful birthday, we don't need to use this as a time to bash the current President.
