Why not take a break from the hustle and bustle with a mini retreat this weekend. Just three hours north is the friendliest little town of San Luis Obispo where life moves at a peaceful pace.

Stay: Petit Soleil Bed & Breakfast

Surrounded by a cobblestone courtyard and an al fresco patio, this fifteen room b&b is a european escape in the heart of town. Each room is so enticingly French and cozy, you won’t want to leave. In true Provencal form all guests enjoy a gastronome breakfast in the a.m. and end with a glass of wine in the p.m. The best way to start and end your leisure days.

Petit Soleil Bed & Breakfast
1473 Monterey Street
San Luis Obispo, CA

You mean the Sunset Drive In is still there and open, surprise, I thought it was demo'd a long time ago. Hope it stays open.

And for Kitsch don't forget the Madonna Inn (no Madge has nothing to do with it, it was there long before she was a celeb)

South to Guadalupe. Best Mexican food around. And the beach and dunes...

when we lived near san jose, ca, we used to take the amtrak from san jose down to san luis obispo. you don't need a rental car, the station is downtown and you can just walk a few blocks to the hotels. it's a nice little town to walk around. by the way, we always lived eating at the apple farm (delicious food; huge selection)

They are no longer called weekend getaways. According to faux any time you leave home for more than 10 hours it is a vacation.

I'd suggest off season travel to avoid crowds. Nearby Arroyo Grande and the beaches are great fun.

Don't forget to visit the Brew Pub, especially during happy hour, great way to slo down and smell the hops!!!
I'm 4 hours north and I really enjoy my visits there.
