As college tuition costs increase, financial aid support fails to keep up, according to new data from the National Center for Education Statistics.
The report, which compiled prices from the 2007 to 2008 school year, also released numbers detailing the average cost of college at different types of institutions. The average cost of a four-year, non-profit private college is $35,000, while cost for four-year public college comes in at just under $14,000. The average annual tuition for a two-year public school is $7,000.
Public colleges have seen their tuition, room and board costs rise 30 percent from 1997. Private institutions have seen a 23 percent increase.
