First Posted: 10/26/10 06:12 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 06:30 PM ET

Rasmussen Reports:

The tie is broken for now, with Republican Meg Whitman, coming off last weekend's state GOP Convention, moving out to her best showing yet in the race to be the next governor of California.

The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Likely Voters in California finds Whitman earning 48% support, while Democrat Jerry Brown picks up 40% of the vote. Six percent (6%) prefer some other candidate in the race, and six percent (6%) are undecided.

Rasmussen called me for this poll on Saturday. The way they ask the questions is weird and confusing.

this Rasmussen poll is outdated. Since labor day when Gov.Brown began his campaign new polls show Gov Brown in a statistical tie with Disgraced Goldman-Sachs CEO Whitman,
the would be Shovenator
PS. the E-bay sellers built the company not Meg . and it is disingenuous for her to claim so.
All she did was physically abuse employees, hurl racial slurs, raise fees, and force sellers to use pay-pal accounts in addition to laying off Californian workers in favor of workers from India.
When I say all she did I mean the ONLY charity she gave money to was that of her husband.
She does not vote, she does not volunteer, and she does not care. The more you know about Meg Whitman
the more it becomes clear she has no right to ask the people of California to vote for her.

Meg Whitman was on the board of directors not ,CEO of Goldman-sachs.the disgraced part is for something called "spinning" similar I guess to what Martha Stewart went to prison for but at the time not technically illegal .Now it is.

i guess there is no possible way to underestimate the voter. the governator as a 25% approval rating, yet we want to elect another republican who will institute a similar agenda in the coming election? i honestly wonder what the logic is there...

Rasmussen is notorious for attempting to set media narratives with a right-wing context.

The latest private poll shows a dead heat.

That's about 12 million dollars per point. How bad must she be to have to spend that much?

witmun is a loser and the polls will change when Californians become more acquainted with her and her corporate leanings.

I cant wait for labor day (the beginning of the campaign) 'What can Meg or Coaly say they haven't said a million times before. People forget what a great governor Brown was the campaign will remind them
Also need to know Oily Coaly (Carly) was Fired from HP and took a golden parachute fired tens of thousands of Californians at hp and shipped their jobs to India (where Jerry Brown worked hospice with Mother Theresa BTW)
Most people don't know Meg was worked for Goldman-Sachs ripping retires off for their pensions
But come Labor day till election day they will find out .Like my dad said don't talk about food till dinnertime many in the electorate have the attention span of a gnat

If I have to see one more Meg Whitman commercial I'm going to bash my TV to pieces with a baseball bat. Meg Whitman is abusing the airwaves in California.

That's where the rest of the California job will go with Whitman.

Wow. Could people really be that stupid? You think they'd learn by now not to elect another boutique Governor. It never ends well. I still can't wrap my head around that woman spending hundreds of millions of her own money to run for this. WHY? What is her reason? She never voted before, she doesn't care about politics. So who is the puppet master? or is this just a big ego trip for her?

She's lying about Brown's record flagrantly. Caught in lie after lie, she continues. I don't believe that she could be ahead in the polls. Californian's are not stupid. Okay, they elected Ahnold.. but that's because they.. oh wait, maybe they are stupid.

Jerry Brown is loved for what he did in Oakland, and all of the things he did to try and turn that city around. Brown created 2 million jobs in California after taking over for a disastrous run by a republican. California does not have time for on-the-job training by some dabbler who thinks it would be fun to buy the Governorship. She's toxic to the core, and not up to the job.

Indeed they can............They voted for Obama over Clinton
01:56 PM on 08/28/2010
Brown is lying about Meg's record at EBay. She started when they had 30 employees and left when it was 15,000. She did her work in a cubicle. The BOD and employees were happy with her. Those are the facts and Brown's smear campaign is disgusting (using the unions to fight his proxy war).

Jerry Brown loved in Oakland..........LMAO*LMAO. They would never elect him dogcatcher in Oakland.

If they knock you down, bite 'em on the ankle.

Gee, then why did they re-elect him as mayor in 2002 with over 60% of the vote?

I hope he rides "hate" like that right back into the governorship.

I love when you guys simply repeat the "big lie" - in this case Rasmussen isn't reputable when it is so easy to disprove:

You guys never learn.

meg, you never voted because? Now you want my vote. GTH.
02:22 PM on 08/28/2010
DIffidently, I want to explain ,I doubt she expects to get your vote. I find it heartening she is willing to spend huge sums of her money to try to reverse Califonia's collapse. She's a beter person than I
Still, one of her problems is going to be the dislike so many of Californian's for being outstanding.

You obviously don't understand what an incumbent being down by 8 points with 67 days to go means.
That's sooooo sweeeeet!!!!!!

Are you really that thick?

Do you even know what incumbent means?
11:48 PM on 08/27/2010
The incumbent governor is not running this time. He is term limited out. Jerry Brown is not the incumbent governor. He is attorney general. You should probably get this sort of thing straight before they let you out to vote all by yourself. Maybe one of the orderlies can help you to understand.
