The federal government will award $1.8 billion to New Orleans schools damaged by Hurricane Katrina, U.S. Sen. Mary Landrieu, D-Louisiana, said Wednesday.

A provision in an appropriations bill authorizes the Federal Emergency Management Agency to provide a lump-sum payment for K-12 schools damaged by hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

Why does it take 5 years to send money to repair schools. Did all the schools just close down that were damaged by Katrina for 5 years. What happened to all the monies raised for Katrina. Where does the money go

hopefully this earmark has stipulations that it be used for the intended purpose. I get a bit nervous when large sums of money are thrown about with no oversight,we have lived with that happening for too long.

We have already thrown $161 billion at Louisian out of emergency funding which remains unaccounted for in the single most corrupt state in the nation. There is no reason whatsoever to believe that these funds won't find their way down the same rat hole as the rest.
