Joe Miller

The Daily Beast:

The count in the Alaskan Senate Republican primary continues for the second day with Joe Miller still in the lead, but the drama is heating up. The Daily Beast has learned exclusively that an individual independent of Lisa Murkowski's campaign has commissioned a poll to see how she would fare if she ran as a third-party candidate under the Libertarian Party.

Whenever there is a close race, I wish the contenders would encourage the ballot counters to do their jobs, instead of trying to make it about a war of words. The more I hear about the inane things being said, the more I am disgusted.

So far, so good. First we throw out the Republican establishment in the primaries then the Democrat establishment in November. Both are corrupt and need to go. How about a little help from you lefties on throwing out the establishment? I can't believe with the opportunity the Democrats had when they had 60 votes that you are satisfied with the results so far.

The Alaska primaries were on the 26th. As of the 29th, 3 days later, Public Policy Polling showed the following:

If the candidates for US Senate this fall were Republican Joe Miller and Democrat Scott McAdams, who would you vote for?

Joe Miller ........................................................ 47%
Scott McAdams............................................... 39%
Undecided....................................................... 14%

The Democrat McAdams is within 8% points and this without his campaign even on launch yet and without loud mouth Palin giving him bogus bagger hype like Miller has. And just as all the distasteful Sharron Angle type things about Miller are coming to light.

He's within striking distance. In red Alaska. If people could help McAdams, just a check for $10 - or $5 - it would be a way to help get another Democratic senator in place - and sweetest of all - stick it to "I own the world" Palin.

Unless Joe Miller moves to walk back his recent statements within the next few days, Alaska's voters have serious cause for concern. Faced with nothing more than a "possible" threat to his slim lead, Miller's first instinct has been to not only question the integrity of his opponent, but to call into doubt the integrity of his own political party and the democratic process in general. His implication that a victory for Murkowski - a statistical possibility - must be viewed with skepticism indicates Miller's unwillingness to accept any outcome other than his own victory, at best preemptively destroying the credibility of any future calls for party unity he would be expected to make in the event of his defeat, at worst signaling his intention to adopt a scorched earth policy if he loses. Clearly Joe Miller sees no higher cause or overriding principle to his personal ambition which, regardless of the final outcome of the primary, should give voters cause for concern. To entrust the political future of one's state and that of this nation to a candidate who reflexively resorts to petty vindictiveness when faced with the possibility of political disappointment would be putting oneself at the mercy of an emotionally immature, self-absorbed egomaniac. If Joe Miller's bratty attitude doesn't give a majority of Alaska's voters pause, there is something seriously wrong with that state's electorate.

Don't try to foist this one upon the gay community. It's bad enough that Ken Mehlman is taxing the limits of my capacity for forgiveness by FINALLY coming out, but refusing to abandon the GOBP's tried and true tactic of scapegoating minorities by shifting the focus to Muslims, trying to convince gay men and lesbians that pubs deserve our support even though they seek to restrict our civil rights because "at least we don't stone you to death" (at least not officially - those of us who remember Matthew Shepard's death and the way the GOBP tried to denounce his death as a result of gay bashing a "fraud" on the House floor in Congress would disagree).

It's Alaska. The entire state has the population of one medium sized city. Why this race gets any attention beyond the Anchorage Evening News, is beyond me

They get the power of states with many times their population. It distorts the nation to retro.

But Sarah said they were about pioneers and bootstraps. And something about "thanks but no thanks" to government money. And I think she's politically Kosher because she said she didn't like pork. And yes she passed out checks from the common pool of oil revenues, but not like socialism does it - like Sarah does which is different. She explained. I don't speak Word Salad fluently so I wasn't clear. But that's basically what she said.

Geeze Louise would she have lied? Is it possible that they really do exist on our money and that her quitting the easy job that was too hard was really about being a dud and a lazy twit who lied about Alaska? Surely not. [batting eyes}

He should either shave it or grow it out a little. He looks like a bum, even though a scuzzy growth is the style right now. On him it looks like he's been on a 5-day drunk.

I do not belong to the Reublic party, but I would give my eye teeth to see Miss Murkowski win just to spite the high and mighy Palin's. Ah, sweet revenge that would be.

Yes children, it has come to this - Joe Miller calls his opponent, Lisa Murkowski, a wh 0re:

"What's the difference between selling out your parties values and the oldest profession?"

http://www.themudflats.net/2010/08/27/joe-miller-calls-senator-lisa-murkowski-a-whore/

He posted this for a short time, then removed it... but not before it went out to thousands of FB users.

He MUST be talking about Murkowski personally... it's not like the party itself, whether Republican or Libertarian has moved away from it's roots. They haven't - they've become even more conservative this election cycle.

He can't blame a staffer, because he would have to have given that person access / authority to speak on his behalf by giving them access / password to his FB account in the first place... is he not man enough to stand by his postings, even if he didn't (supposedly) compose it?

And, now that the poop has hit the fan, how can we be sure that it is actually HIM apologizing for and had retracted / taken back the statement...?

Is he sorry he placed / allowed to be placed that statement on his FB? Or is he just very, very sorry that he simply got caught??

I hope Murkowski does run as a Libertarian. She and Palin's poodleboy would split the Republican vote and McAdams might then have a shot at the seat.

Another ultra-donothing-conservative to make sure the laboring class (no longer the working class) is denied further assistance from Washington. Thanks Alaska now I know why we have kept you separated from the US by Canada. By the way can we trade Alaska to Canada for the Maritime Provinces?
