JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Sarah Palin called President Barack Obama the most pro-abortion president ever Thursday and mocked Florida's governor for claiming to be pro-life after vetoing a bill that would have required women to get ultrasounds before having the procedure.

In a speech that only ventured into politics on abortion issues, Palin criticized Obama's health care overhaul as a plan that will lead to more abortions.

"The biggest advance of the abortion industry in America is the passage of Obamacare," Palin said. "Elective abortions have nothing to do with health care. It's about ending lives, not saving lives."

The former Alaska governor and Republican presidential nominee John McCain's running mate in 2008 also drew boos and laughter when she talked about Florida Gov. Charlie Crist, who left the Republican Party and is now running for Senate as an independent.

"Unfortunately your Republican governor," Palin began before pausing. "I don't know if he wants to be one or is a Republican anymore."

After the crowd booed, she continued.

"Your governor, he decided to veto this pro-life bill," she said before drawing laughs by sarcastically pointing out that Crist still calls himself pro-life. "He forgot that when to comes protecting the sanctity of life actions speak louder than words."

Crist didn't immediately return a message left on his cell phone seeking comment.

Palin spoke to a crowd of about 500 at a fundraiser for Heroic Media, a group that uses billboards, television ads and the internet to try direct women to crisis pregnancy centers instead of opting for abortions. The event raised about $50,000.

Other than attacking Crist and Obama and urging the crowd to pick congressional candidates that will seek to overturn the health care plan, she kept her remarks to the issue of preventing abortions. She touched on personal subjects, like her doubt in God when an ultrasound showed her son, Trig, would be born with Down syndrome and when her daughter Bristol told Palin and her husband Todd that she was pregnant.

She told the crowd that before learning about Trig, she often told people "God will never give you anything you can't handle."

Her thought after the ultrasound: "God, I think you've overestimated us this time."

"How in the world is this going to work? Does God really know what he's doing?" she said.

She said she cried out for a miracle and her prayer was answered when her son was born.

"God does know what he's doing," she said.

When her then 17-year-old daughter announced she was pregnant, she said she wasn't pleased. But neither experience made her rethink her anti-abortion stance.

"What Bristol and I have been through has not changed my opinion, but it has changed my perspective," she said. "I understand what goes through a woman's mind when she is presented with less-than-perfect circumstances."

So, wait.....it's unconstitutional to require all people to have healthcare, but you're going to force me to have an ultrasound? Republican hypocricy is fun!

If Obama is the most pro-abortion president ever, even more reason to vote for him.

Ah, right wingers. They want government out of your lives, except for your bedroom and your womb.

I like children, and don't appreciate the idea that life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness can be destroyed simply because that individual happens to be in the womb of what is all too often an irresponsible woman.

Ummm....and what about the man in this scenario? Oh right....he's off the hook, isn't he? I wish you knew how damaging that kind of statement is. That antiquated way of thinking is why young women keep unwanted pregnancies a secret. It's why young men often think it's not 'their problem' when the unthinkable happens. It's discrimination of the worst kind and it's part of the problem. Shame on you.

But back to my point....it's hypocracy to try and tell a woman what she can and cannot do with her body, to tell consenting adults who to sleep with or marry, tell people where they can or can't build a mosque, then invoke the constituttion to protect the stuff you want. Either the constitution stands for every one or no one.

Yet another reason I like Obama and not Palin,
Last I checked the majority of Americans still want abortion to be available to those who want/need it. The alternative is mean and ugly.
And why is having public funds used for Medicare abortions so bad? Since those pregnancies would otherwise probably result in more children needing government support of some sort?

Palin has made her self a hero in the anti-abortion world and continues to capitalize on her choice to not abort her Down's child. That was her choice- but I think the choice to not have such a child should exist. Many mothers aren't actually up to the job of parenting a special needs child, for various reasons, including inadequate material support.

Re: "The alternative [to abortion] is mean and ugly." Huh??? Do you mean to say that allowing a baby to be born, and given the chance to live in the greatest country on the earth where lots and lots of people overcame hardships to live long fulfilling lives? Why do we always assume that a so-called "unwanted" pregnancy is going to turn out horribly for the child? Answer: to perpetuate the lie that abortion is somehow merciful. Meantime, I'd suggest that what's truly "mean and ugly" is when an abortionist tears the arms and legs off a live person inside a woman's womb.

Yes, it is possible for life to turn out okay for unwanted children, but it is also quite possible that they will live in poverty or foster care, or be aborted under conditions unsafe for the mother. The foster care system is super overloaded around here.

If you really want to decrease the demand for abortion then work on the reasons women end up wanting abortions. Jobs, childcare, substance abuse, sexual coercion, lack of birth control, etc. When pregnant women feel optimistic about how much support they can look forward to they are less likely to seek abortions. That means stable relationships, decent jobs, welfare, health care, etc.

Sarah, that is our Governor. We like our Governor down her. He stood up to Big Oil, unlike you. He stood up for Teachers, unlike you. Forcing women to have an ultra-sound before an abortion is Government getting involved in our lives, that isn't the conservative thing to do. Crist doesn't believe that we should force morality on people. That used to be a big part of the GOP platform. But apparently, when you don't like what people are doing (gays, women getting abortion) you go against the Lord you claim to serve and start attacking. That isn't what God commands us to do. He commands us to be humble and kind. Your sarcastic remarks, your hypocrisy, don't bring it down here. We don't want you in FL.

So is Obama now secretly meeting with Charlie Crist to undermine Kendrick Meek?

"Florida Gov. Crist Visited Martha’s Vineyard Friday; Campaign Says He Didn’t Meet With Obama, Won’t Say Who Hosted Fundraiser"
Thursday, August 26, 2010

(CNSNews.com) - Florida Gov. Charlie Crist, who is running for the U.S. Senate as an Independent facing both a Republican and Democratic opponent, visited Martha’s Vineyard last Friday, but, according to his campaign spokesman, the governor did not meet with President Barack Obama, who was also on the island that day, or with any members of the Obama administration."

"Crist’s campaign said the governor visited the island for a fundraiser, but would not say who hosted the event."

Meeks is a joke. If Crist wins, and wins big, I think this will send a message to the GOP.

Will Sarah Palin and others be donating their cash toward providing for the nations homeless children. According to the National Coalition for the Homeless, 1.35 million U.S. children are homeless on any given night. (2000). Please note that families with children are the fastest growing segment of the homeless population, accounting for almost 41% of the nation's homeless. (2005). It hard to talk about abortion, but even harder if we do not find solutions to help our homeless children.
