Mustard Yellow Dresses And Red Lips: Best Red Carpet Color Combo? (PHOTOS, POLL)

First Posted: 08/28/2010 8:42 am   Updated: 05/25/2011 4:50 pm

Only one more day until the 2010 Emmy Awards and instead of dispensing fashion predictions (we'll see soon enough!), we'd like to dole out some style advice! For a while now, we've watched stars wear mustard yellow dresses with bright red lipstick (think Revlon's "Fire and Ice"). Yellow isn't an easy color to pull off, but when worn correctly, celebs can very easily find themselves on best dressed lists. This year might be the time to try it, ladies! Check out some of our favorite celebrities wearing Hollywood's hot color combo and tell us which ones were hits and which were misses.

She's too pale for it.

How is Belle ranked above Charlize Theron and how is Charlize Theron only #8. The top two are well deserved though.

Michelle Williams in that yellow Vera Wang with red lip is probably THE most memorable red carpet fashion moment for me. Absolute Perfection. Definition of style, grace, risk, & sophistication.

Mustard yellow is better left as trim or part of a pattern. It is overwhelming when worn head to toe; people end up looking at the dress wearing the woman rather than the opposite. Mustard yellow is best left on hot dogs.

Where's Cate Blanchett's Oscar winning moment in yellow Valentino? That was beautiful.

Michelle Williams and Diane Kruger I remember in their dresses on the red carpet. They looked stunning. In fact, it was the best Michelle Williams has ever looked and she stood out. Sad. It was happier times with Heath Ledger.

It's a great color for dark-haired women. Teri Hatcher and Kate Beckinsale look fabulous to me.

Michelle Williams had the perfect shade, and I wouldn't call it mustard at all. More like a golden yellow with a lot of peach. That was a great year for her and Heath. Too bad it all ended as it did. Loved her Art Deco jewelry as well. Perfect.

With the richness of the mustard-colored dresses, there's really no other lipstick color that can balance and show off the wearer of the dress. If the women wore neutral and flesh-tone lipsticks, I don't think it would've been enough, and the dress would wind up being more noticed, and wearing the woman and not the other way around as it should be. There are too many outlandish clothes and colors out there that are noticed before the woman wearing them.
