Bill Clinton Still Watching His Waistline: Report

First Posted: 08/30/2010 8:23 am Updated: 05/25/2011 5:30 pm

Bill Clinton is still keeping an eye on his waistline, Page Six reports. The former president stopped by Babette's in East Hampton last week and ordered, essentially, the diet plate. A source said, "[Bill] was sitting in a corner banquette, eating a veggie burger and a mountain of vegetables. He was with Hillary, who had a falafel plate, and her mother, Dorothy Rodham, who ate French toast."

In April, Chelsea asked her dad to lose 15 pounds by the time her wedding rolled around. At the time, Bill explained to the New York Post, Chelsea "told me the other day, she said, 'Dad the only thing you gotta do is walk me down the aisle and you need to look good.' So I said 'Well, what's your definition?' And she said: 'Oh, about 15 pounds.' So I'm halfway home."

It seems that Chelsea's vegan eating habits rubbed off on dad--Bill lost not 15, but 23 pounds, thanks to a vegetarian diet. And judging from what was on his plate at Babette's, perhaps Clinton has decided to stick with the no-meat plan for a while.

I thought Bill looked fine before the wedding. He looks skinny now.

I think most Americans can stand to lose the weight. It's not his weight loss which bothers me. He looks unhealthy to me, like he's just going to fall over any minute. Hope he's ok.

geez, but everyone seems to be worried about people losing too much weight? Hope they are worried about people gaining weight as well as it' much more dangerous. Unfortunately I find that those who worry about someone being too thin have the opposite problem. He's got good doctors and they'll take care of his weight situation. It' his wife's weight and the stress of her job that concerns me and I want her around for a long time as well.

Obesity not anorexia is the threat to the population.

Working on your character is a lifetime committment. I hope you are still working on yours as I am on mine.

Don't care if you are working on your character....my comment was for him. I care more about someone's character than their waistline. I'm just saying.....

President Clinton is a hreat humanitarian and ambassador of good will throughout the world. He has raised millions of dollars with his global initiatives since leaving the White House. I believe that qualifies as having character, don't you?

I'd say Bill Clinton's record on Kosovo alone, not to mention the many other requisite war crimes of being a US president, disqualify him as a humanitarian ambassador.

To his credit, you need to be a war criminal in violation of international law in order to be president and not be assassinated. But I think there are people in our society who can afford to be much greater humanitarians in order to push center-Right wing politicians to humanitarian acts, and THEY should get the credit.

I am sure that a good part of his new eating habits has to do with his health, his heart and his life expectantcy.
02:45 AM on 08/31/2010
Coronary artery disease is treatable but not curable and has a negative impact on life expectancy as it continues to progress so his diet his highly relevant to his health. Of course, it is for all Americans.
09:02 PM on 09/22/2010
Yes, I saw an interview on CNN where he talked about going to a plants-based diet for his health, and cited Dr. Dean Ornish among others. I remember Dr. Ornish from the 90's and his studies on reversing heart disease with diet and lifestyle.
