Glenn Beck Rally Results In Sandwich-Throwing Incident At GWU

First Posted: 08/30/10 01:27 PM ET Updated: 05/25/11 06:30 PM ET

On Saturday, thousands converged at the Lincoln Memorial for the "Restoring Honor" rally, lead by Fox News pundit Glenn Beck.

The rally fell on the 47th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King's "I have a dream" speech. It also happened to coincide with George Washington University's move-in day. The GW Hatchet was there, reporting from both. Though move-in day went smoothly, two ralliers got into a snack-related dust-up at a campus deli:

Though the rally was a mostly peaceful gathering, two rally attendees got into a heated argument with an employee at the GW Deli over the D.C. bag tax, which ultimately resulted in the tea party member throwing a sandwich in the deli employee's face. The GW Deli declined to comment on the issue.

WATCH: The GW Hatchet's coverage from the scene of the rally:

That's who they are - hooligans, who found the "roof" for their abusive actions.

Entire Trash Party is just about that - no thoughts, no ideas, no brains, just no tax ( when there were not) and other senseless noise.
These people not just a trash, they are trashing all around .
They are The Cancer of Society.

Glenn Beck converted to Mormonism just to have Sex within the Mormon rituals. How can people believe in Beck talking about values, morals, or God if his religious convictions are phony?

they probably are on the same level and consider that as Life achievement.

It would be truly awe-inspiring to note that so many people came to Washington to express their love for God and for God's creation. Inspiring to hear people talk about living their belief in action.
That is what God calls us to do - to put our love into action. However Beck's calling on God while he spews prejudice and right wing propaganda smacks of blasphemy. OK this particular moment of time, he cooled it down in order to supposedly rise to the higher element. But anyone who condemns churches who stand for social justice (Catholic Church and many mainline Protestant churches for instance) encouraging people to walk out, does not know the loving God who stands up for the poor. The God who loves people of color as well as white people. He would condemn these words " God has raised up lowly..has shown might with his arm, dispersed the arrogant of mind and heart. He has thrown down the rulers from their thrones but lifted up the lowly. The hungry he has filled with good things; the rich he has sent away empty. "
sounds like a left wing radical to be thrown out of Beck's church. By the way the words are from Mary the mother of Jesus in the Gospel of Luke chapter 1.

He has said that he advocates leaving your church if it teaches social justice in the sense that the government is the one "providing justice." However, one of his main messages daily on his show is that we as individuals, rather than the government, have a responsibility to help those in need.

I just want to point out that they didn't have to pay for the Metro, because the lines were so long and the trains so packed authorities just opened the gates to avoid security issues. So when they have to pay FIVE CENTS for a bag they should be on their knees thanking DC

Ummm...might have it been worth mentioning that said tax Mr. Teabagger was up in arms about was *five fr!gg!n cents,* and that the implementation of it has pretty much solved DC's solid waste crisis?

Apparently their little visitors' guide advised "when in Rome, do as the Philistines do."

Why the perjorative "Mr. Teabagger"? Does that make you feel like you actually have something to say. Name calling? Seriously?

Oh, did anyone hear anything about "the Plan" that Glenda Beckinridge promoted back in Novermber and said he would reveal at his Beckith Fair?

When did honor leave our country. It couldn't have been when we allowed torture, or pointless wars. No, that's not it. It was when a black man was elected president. Heaven forbid.

Jordan seemed to have his head on straight. If we did more talking with reason than yelling with emotion, things could probably get done.

A noble sentiment, and I agree with you that that's how things should work, but we're dealing with people whose understanding of the world is based on flat-out lies, fear, and ignorance. Maybe someday, not today....

Quite a number of gun nuts showed up at at this event, driven by a guy who uses the words racist, communist, socialist, progressive, et al as if he knows what any of those mean. He sees communism in old masonry. He sees racism that turns out to be "liberation theology" as if THAT means anything. He shills for gold salesmen, because they're among the sponsors who stuck with him. He writes Christmas fiction that rips off other people's fiction. He loudly proclaims how much he hates 9/11 widows. He insults the batty chicks from The View, then goes on their show to apologize, then goes back on the radio to say they owe HIM an apology. He sounds like he's bi-polar.
And THIS is why the mainstream of the country doesn't trust conservatives to pick another president for all of us. You royally screwed us with Bush, you somehow think PALIN has a brain, and you worship Glen Beck. You people pick morons for your leaders.

That's odd. Around 100,000 racists & homophobes show up at a rally: Number of racist remarks caught on tens of thousands of cameras and cell phones: zero. Number of violent acts committed: one (one assault with a sandwich). The vicious bastards!

We conservatives look at our country and see social decay: political corruption, sloth, ignorance, crime, and a general lack of respect. This rally was just away of saying that we Americans are better than that. How can any sane individual have a problem with that?

Why do you liberals direct such an irrational, visceral hatred against a rally that was about nothing more than honor & decency? If you find this offensive, what, if anything do you people stand for? Why are you so hellbent on demonizing it and its attendees?

At a rally for restoring honor, decency, and character you see….. nothing. What exactly did you find so offensive? Did any of you even watch it, or was your mind made up before it began?

Most Americans who watched this rally see something entirely different from what you do. They see your response as irrational. That's why the Tea Party Movement & Beck are growing in popularity.

We are the traditional Americans who made this country what it is. We see you and President Obama as the ones who will tear it down, to rebuild it as a tyrannical, soulless monstrosity. We're saying "no thanks", but you aren't listening, and likely never will.

Unfortunately, what you see and the reality is not quite the same. We also see social decay, sloth, ignorance, crime, and lack of respect. We however understand that wedge issues are only there to distract us from one glaring contradiction: that this country is no longer by the people for the people. We understand that the problem isn't big government, but big corporation that is ruining the country. We understand that taxpayers are the ones that need assistance in the forms of jobs, not banks in the form of enormous bailouts. We understand that tax increases and military cuts are a necessary evil to eliminate the national debt. We understand that the far right and the far left both want the same thing, and that the enemy is not the opponent, but those sitting in the center on a throne purchased with corporate lobbying are the true enemy.

We don't hate you or the Tea Party. We are frustrated because, like a large portion of our own base, you have been misled. We elected Obama thinking him a true progressive, but we misjudged him. He is nothing but a corporate shill. We admit our mistakes. We hope that you don't repeat ours.
09:40 AM on 08/31/2010
Dietaether, you had me up until the swipe at Obama. Please do not speak for me - I still believe in our president despite the many, many obstacles thrown in his path from all directions (including his past supporters but those who have changed their mind because things aren't being done fast enough or on a large enough scale to suit them).

And John Cheves: when has Obama ever shown a lack of respect towards anyone? Is he the one out there regularly calling other people names? Make a checklist and cite every incident you can recall that Obama has done so, vs a checklist of every time Beck has done so (publicly and on film). I think you'll find one list a lot longer than the other.

Furthermore, it's difficult to respect someone who puts together a rally and then asks his donors to pay for it (small print on the donation Web site tells the donor that all pledges go first to pay for the rally, and then any LEFTOVER monies go to the families of soldiers). I don't recall MLK asking for money.

Can you say 'humility'? You know, humble pie?
My soul is the center of my life. That's why there is separation of church and state.
I do not want ANYONE governing my soul.
Let's not get on the Mayflower, yet, but How far back does your documentation go on BOTH parental sides? Huh? Mine's documented. Take a look at your papers.
The first pilgrims were prisoners. READ HISTORY. AMerican Indians were the first slaves. They planted and gardened TOBACCO. READ HISTORY. That is why we came here. Look at the south. Is not smoking a sin? WHO OWNS the tobacco fields? READ HISTORY instead of allowing some fairy tailing radio host trying to pay his mortgages bamboozle you into stupidity.
You can start with reading about Elizabeth I and her relationship with SIR WALTER RALEIGH. Remember the guy in the can? TOBACCO. Raleigh was against England attempting to colonize to grow the stuff. He told her, "knowing what it does to the lungs.". Good grief. Be humble and read.
