San Francisco Examiner:

SAN FRANCISCO -- A chain bookstore anchoring a condominium complex in the center of a revived South Beach is going out of business in October amid neighborhood fears that the space will remain empty too long in the down economy.

The last day of business for the Borders on King Street between Third and Fourth streets is Oct. 16, according to Borders spokeswoman Mary Davis.

Sad. I just stopped at my local Borders on Sunday around 7pm and discovered that they were in the process of closing for the day. They used to be open until 9, I think. Cutting the hours, while maybe required financially, seems self-defeating, though. They lost potential business from me, since I'm rarely in the area these days *except* at that time.
