Kenneth Feinberg: New Gulf Compensation Chief Isn't Meeting Promise On Processing Claims

ProPublica:

Signs are emerging that Feinberg's goals -- particularly his pledge to respond to personal claims for emergency payments within 48 hours -- may be overly ambitious. Applicants participating in our BP Claims Project [1] say that they have not received responses within two days of filing claims and that they have encountered an array of service problems, from a system crash to difficulty in transferring critical paperwork.

Isn't the GCCF nominally independent from government? If so, how is this the government's fault?

I understand that business is bad for the print media and most TV stations. But manufacturing silly and disingenuous news like this, or conducting stupid polls or being obsessed with characters like Palin is a sign of being helpless. We all remembered the compensation procedure of the Exxon Valdez, why stir citizens with silly news just to sale newspapers or higher rating?

Gulf victims are complaining about the response time after a month. Katrina Victims are still waiting after 5 years.

"Signs are emerging that Feinberg's goals - particularly his pledge to respond to personal claims for emergency payments within 48 hours - may be overly ambitious."

This article briefly addresses: (a) how GCCF limits BP's liability via the systematic postponement, reduction or denial of claims against BP; (b) how GCCF guarantees BP's continued long-term operation in the offshore Gulf of Mexico E&P sector; and (c) why GCCF is not necessary to ensure that victims of the BP oil spill are fully compensated for incurred damages.

The purpose of this fund is to take the attack dogs off BPs back. Not to help anybody who needs money. If the government puts you off, what are you going to sue them? I think this fund is Obama's most brilliant achievement since becoming president.

Good grief. People waited all their lives and died without receiving any compensation for Exxon Valdez. After five years, people are still hoping for help they will probably never receive from insurance companies after Katrina. And here people are whining about having to wait an extra few days to be compensated after Deepwater Horizon? And posters here are actually up in arms about it?

Please keep in mind that BP "deferred" more than 30,000 claims in the ten days or so before the fed took over the process, meaning that they dumped these claims en masse on the fed.

Whatever company you work for, no matter how large it is, how fast do you think you could process 30,000 claims laid on your doorstep tomorrow, even if every single one was legitimate and came with all the paperwork?

Well at least the Democrat's relatives will get paid even if they aren't entitled.

Yet you don't care about the $9 billion missing from Iraq...or the $2 trillion missing from the Pentagon a few months before 911. Tool.

Why is anyone surprised that when the government "takes over" something, it usually gets worse?

Ya, you need an emergency operation? Obama was meaning to make that process quick for approvals, but it takes multiple weeks. Too bad your dead.

BP accepts blame for Gulf of Mexico spill after leaked memo reveals engineer misread pressure reading

BP has for the first time admitted that it made mistakes which led to the Gulf of Mexico oil spill, according to U.S. reports.

The oil giant’s internal investigation found that managers misinterpreted data that told them a blowout was imminent on the very day the disaster happened.

Hours later the Deepwater Horizon oil rig exploded, killing 11 men and causing the worst environmental disaster in U.S. history.

Now its own internal probe, which it began immediately after the spill began, found that on April 20 managers misread pressure data and gave their approval for rig workers to replace drilling fluid in the well with seawater.

The seawater was not heavy enough to prevent gas that had been leaking into the well from firing up the pipe to the rig, causing the explosion.

The investigation has also asked why John Guide, an engineer with BP and the team leader overseeing the project, ignored warnings about weaknesses in cement outside the well which could have prevented the gas from escaping.

BP intends to release details of the 200-page report in the next week or so.

The government has had control of the claims system for a week, barely enough time to get the phones turned on in their offices and staff seated at their desks, this report is just a bit premature. Especially considering that they have over 31,000 claims to work through.

Another rush to judgment by those looking to make headlines.

This is the excuse for allowing people to go hungry?

They processed and paid on 1200 applications in their first week of operation, that is not exactly sitting around sipping coffee all day.

The system is not perfect but they are currently one heck of a lot fast then if it were still in BP's hands.

Oh, you personally know someone going hungry on the Gulf because his or her claim is still being processed? Please stop with the melodrama.

This is NOT THE GOVERNMENT !

The agency is being run like the 9.11 Victims Fund....

It is Totally Independent of BP and of the Federal Government.

You are right. This is not the government. The trolls are paid to do a job so the select a sentence from the list and paste. I have to believe that because it's appears as though they don't read the articles but instead

Why do you think that most intelligent folks prefer the non-Government solution? However, you can count on lots of fraud, waste, and abuse.
