Positions in Bed :

Since discovering I'm weird, I've asked around and have found many people who sit up, against the headboard or a pillow or two, and prop the book on their knees. Many side-readers. But no tummy-reader-elbow-proppers like me. Am I so strange?

I used to read like that when I was a kid, or on my side. I've become a confirmed-on-my-back reader because it's easier to nap that way without harming the book (or now, book-reader) when I drift off. :-)

I thought it was on my back but as I think about it I think what I really like is variety. Only position I don't like is on my tummy.

Interesting question...did you know that a comfortable body position is not necessarily a HEALTHY body posture? Most people think ergonomic injury is about movement - repetitive or extreme - in reality, pain, discomfort and injury can come from sitting for long periods of time (like reading for hours) in Out of Neutral Body postures.
There is a healthy position - NASA tested.

The best position is belly propped down, butt propped up according to Ted Nugent.

I'm a side-reader for a paperback, and on-my-tummy-propped-elbows for hardback. Reading before bedtime is like a sleeping pill.... (unless it's Stephen King ) eeee....

In bed on my side.
Slightly off topic, the woman in the photo is quite attractive.

Thanks to Kindle I am a side reader now. No pages to turn which used to be a hassle.

the hassle he means is that when lying on your side, you have to change your position a little every time you need to change a page which can be frequent and distracting , especially if you read rather fast.

I inevitably end up drowsing off and dropping my book on the floor... don't know how a Kindle would stand up to that.

Just got a very well-padded cover for my iPad and I think it would stand up to slipping to the floor.

I've done that a couple times with mine -- so far nothing bad. Still not advising doing that. :)

On my side or on my back. Sometimes sitting up but without headboard.

I tend to read propped up in bed with my book supported by my knees. Hadn't ever really put much thought into how people read in bed.

I cannot lie down and read for too long. I must have my green corduroy study pillow, the kind with arms sticking out on the sides. When I was in college we called these types of pillows a "husband" because you could lean against it.
